Drivers window broken - is it covered by insurance?

    Hi,
I was trying to put my window up when it stopped half way. I tried to put it up more and I heard something snap before the window fell into the door. When I try to put the window up all I hear is the noise of glass being pushed around.

I'm insured with axa and have indiscreet cover. Does anyone know if what ever snapped for the window to fall will be covered?

Car insurance will not cover component failure the same way if your television stopped working it would not be covered by your home insurance.

Windscreen cover doesn't always cover side windows. It certainly doesn't cover anything other than the glass, so no, you're not covered. If your car is a few years old and if you're in anyway competent with repair, just remove the door card and see what snapped. Replace it with a scrap yard part, or get the part from someone who is breaking the same type of car. Otherwise, get the part from ebay, or a garage for speed and get the job done. It should be a cheap fix, under €100 unless you go for main dealer parts.

get a window and regulator in a scrap yard, there should be loads of focus' lying about in one.

Common Fault with that model Focus, The wire breaks, Could be difficult to find the parts in a scrappy due to demand.

Are you sure the window is actually broken? Sounds to me like the regulator has broken and the window just fell down into the door. The window itself very rarely breaks when this happens. If the motor is still working you can buy a new regulator mechanism without the motor for around €80. Or you can buy a secondhand regulator in a scrapyard for approx half that price.

Thanks I'll call around a few places tomorrow. Any idea of prices?

Secondhand regulator would be €40-50 on average. The 3 and 4/5 door cars use different regulators so just be aware of that when sourcing one.
