I saw this post from AI about the Woodies DIY National League.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but what exactly is that league? Who can enter it and how does it operate?

This is a club league set over 3 rounds (2 rounds and a final that has to be qualified for)

Basically Each club is allowed one athlete per event. Depending on there position in the race they are awarded points 9 for first down to 1 for 8th (2nd is 7 points IIRC)

Each club must partake in a certain amount of events to be eligible (I think its 15 for Premier Division Clubs and 12 for 1st Division)

Top 8 teams in each division over the first 2 rounds advance to final. There is also a promtion/ Relegation between the division (1 down and one up)

Clubs decide on who partakes in each event though some people do apply to guest in certain races depending on the numbers but have to do so via the AAI

I think it's 17 events in Premier and 15 events in div 1 to score.
    Re guesting
You just turn up on the day and declare yourself to the official registrar. They give you a number and you will be identified to the other people in the race as a guest. It's free and the standard is not that scary. Guests are usually put in Div 1 race. If you tried a graded league or wanted to test out a bit of track, or run in a goud 5k (on a flat fast course) its ideal. And FREE!!

Would that still be the same for sprint events where there are only a certain amount of available lanes? For example if there were 16 down to race over 2 heats, would they accommodate a guest and change it to 3 heats of 17?

In real terms it never happens..
Division 1 has 8 teams in its venue
In reality there are rarely 8 competitors do its easy manage for organisers. However in the case like this, yes they would have 3 heats of 5/6 each. Times to decide positions..

Except in the final when all lanes are usually full.

A few days on the AAI website. They have on occasion not put them up but the last few years have gotten better regarding this.

Any results up or can they be posted up, thanks...

results have been posted to the various club contacts for the teams involved.
should be on AAI site in a day or so when any queries/mistakes have been sorted out.
In fairness, its a big job cross checking all the results and the points totals.

team placing after first 2 rounds less important this year as all team start with 0 in the final.
previously top team after 2 rounds had 9 pts at the start of the final...then 7 for 2nd, 6...etc....

Anyone running the first round of the National League in Santry this weekend? I'm considering going up and running as a guest in the 1500m.

Double check with AAI. Think you have to apply before the entries go in but not a hundred percent

Cheers man, I thought from reading the posts above it would be OK to just turn up on the day and register, providing it's not a final. Will check with someone in the club.

Just after reading back there. That's probably the case, sorry I had guesting for a club on my mind which as far as I am aware has to be declared when the teams go in

I think its up to the organisers discretion also, only allowed guest the sprint events etc if there is a free lane.

There don't seem to be a list up on the AAI website.

    Results from last years league.

Do they not run the premier and division 1 events separately? From that timetable looks like they are run together.

Depends on the race, walk/steeple/5k all the one. Premier 1st,the division1 immediately after for the races they split.

Think they are separate also, I got thrown into the discuss last yr, even with only division1 lads against me I still came last by a mile, only got one out correctly, to something pathetic like 15m ha.

Agreed. Think I'm off the hook too. 29 years since I last ran National League, might make it a round 30 next year.

As long as you know before Sunday that you are racing. Nothing worse then travelling there and not knowing.
