Skoda Superb Buying Advice

    Hi,

Looking at potentially buying a NI/UK import Superb (new model) over coming weeks, aiming to have <80k miles on the clock, and looking for a bit of advice.

I know that I need to do a HPI check and get a mechanic to check over at minimum, confirm it was not a commercial vehicle (e.g. taxi) etc.

I'd expect the mechanic to pick up on any crash repair etc, however with regard to servicing rquirements, like all cars, I'm sure some intervals are major services, others are minor.

As have not owned a diesel engine car before:confused:, I'm unclear of what differences are reuqired with respect to service.

Can somone please advise what are the things to look out for/check in service history (e.g. frequency of dust & pollen filter change outs, fuel filter change outs, oil changes, timing belt change frequency, brake oil change outs...).

If anyone can send a link to where there is a clear schedule of the Skoda Superb service requirements, I would gretly appreciate it, as their website seems to only mention varied interval type (i.e. car trip computer tells you, based on driving style etc) or the regular schedule interval, but can't find the actual details of what each service entails.

    Thanks

You will do a way better buying a irish car atm because of the exchange rate plus the irish Superbs are a way better specced...

HAs assumed that they woudl be mostly equivalent. Looking at specs (hard to compare as different format to UK andIreland specs) it does seem that the UK Elegance is mostly equivalent to the Irish Comfort (alloys, bi-xenon lights and a few other exceptions) - presume this is what you mean?

Assuming I but Irish based on previous post, does anyone knowwhre rI can get details on what are the service requirements at the km intervals- I've checked the manual online and don't see them in there so don't know where these are captured?

If I remember correctly, depends totally on which engine is in it. Could be 15,000km or 30,000km.

My auld man had one, 1.9TDI with a 30,000km service interval.

My Octavia, same engine, probably different engine code, has a 15,000km service interval.

Personally speaking, I'd never let any car go near 30,000km without changing the oil. Especially the newer diesel engines.

In NI Superbs are VERY common as taxis. And often don't have a meter so there is no telltale dashboard holes. And for those which haven't been taxied, taxi drivers want to buy them, pushing the prices up!

Service interval on my one is every 10,000miles/16,000km (2.0TDI CR170)
A sensor on the DPF went faulty at 40K miles (cost 65 euro to replace).

Apart from that , I've had no problems with it (currently 55K miles on the clock)

The first MkII Superbs from 08/09 were a little better spec'd in the UK....but the last time I checked (2010) UK and ROI specs were the same.

Also thinking of buying a superb from the UK. Most likely an 08 CR 140 elegance.

Assuming full service history and car checked over etc, is it worth paying thousands extra for a lower mileage car?? If I buy a well maintained car with 120k miles or so, am I setting myself up for lots of expensive bills in the near future? I mean, is the 3 or 4k sterling I'd save over buying a 60k mile car a false economy?

    Thanks.

apparently this problem can affect VW/Audi and Skoda as is part of fundemental design of chassis.

From my limited reviews online, it appears that a replacement/upgrade of the seals aournd the dust/pollen filter and plenum chamber, and routine clear out of any crud in plenum chamber area (run off from windscreen etc) shoudl prevent this source of leakage - can anyone confirm this or have any specifics of upgrade that I could demand if buing from a Skoda dealer?

I had this issue, replaced the PCB, sealed it up and it happened again.
All the electrics worked intermittently, very frustrating, Skoda would not help out and would not admit to the 2 design faults (placing a PCB on the floor, poor housing/sealing around pollen filter). I also had a damp smell when i turned on the heater.
Also it had very poor fuel economy.
Wouldnt look at one ever again

Full manual here - be patient, it takes a couple of minutes, but it does load:

thanks for posting the manual. I don't see anything about the service intervals inside - is there a separate service manual/logbook that is available to see?
