    Hey,
Got a letter off Sky this morning about a change in sky tv contract as of Sept 1st. Basically BSkyB Publications is changing to British Sky Broadcasting Limited. Says I have until 31st of July to ring, otherwise they assume I accept.

I'm still in contract but don't actually use sky anymore since I moved house, the box isn't even set up. There's still 7 months or so left on the contract, but obviously if I could (with no penalties) I'd cancel now!

So just wondering can we cancel because of this?!

yes and no... as it's a name change sky are likely to argue it has no bearing on any offered service. But you can always ring and say you don't agree and see what they say.

Your contract was with BSkyB Publications not British Sky Broadcasting Limited so why not?

The only snag might be, that you've only been under contract for less than 12 months and so you might have to return their equipment or pay for it.

It's a name change. Don't see how it affects the contract. It doesn't affect the service being offered.

You are paying for no service?

Return the viewing to them stating you are dissatisfied with the service , or lack of it,
Tell them to collect their equipment ie sky box, dish ( where ever it is ) and viewing card, as it is their property within the first year,

The equipment supplied to you no longer functions under the original contract, ie between you and the vendor, due to equipment failure,

Stop all direct debits, and if debt collectors are employed ask said for an invoice

Not sure where you got all this from? Based on the original post the OP has made no effort to check if there is a service.

They cannot do this if you've paid more than 6 months of the 12 month contract, you own the box, it's yours.

    No.

Companies can legally change their names by change of company name resolution, without affecting existing contracts. Sometimes this possibility is explicitly worded in a contract, but need not be. If you think about it, if permitted it would be a cheap and convenient way for unscrupulous companies to break contracts.
