    Hi guys,
if anyone is interested in having a VO2max test done, i'm offering free tests in Trinity for the next 2 weeks. You'll get a full breakdown of your lactate, heart rate, VO2 and power profiles. In addition we'll also be looking at some biomechanical variables such as L/R power discrepensies, crank angle at peak force etc.

    The following stipulations apply:

    1) That you are male and under the age of 35.
    2) That you have a minimum of 2 years cycling experience.
    3) That you've had no major injuries or illnesses in the last 12 months.
    4) That you agree for your test data to be used in a study which is modelling lactate, power and heart rate profiles in cyclists. Your data will remain entirely anonymous and no reference will ever be made to you.

If you're interested, send me a PM! I have a limited number of spots available so the first 10 responses in will get the tests.

I thought from the title that this was just someone seeing if they were able to post in the forum. Hope I haven't missed out!

I need lots of science to beat Lumen in next year's TT! :D:p

Surely it's about time someone in Ireland started studying the effects of ageing on all these metrics - when you do, put me down for the 50+ category (although I'll probably be 60+ by the time it happens ;))

You hadto wait until four days after I turned 35? No luck these days.

Out of interest, how much are these tests usually?

Well that's nine in-thread PMs... there might be one more spot, but I would imagine there may have been a PM not mentioned in-thread. In case leftism is in danger of getting spammed. :p

I pm'd as soon as the thread went up, although I haven't been cycling 2 years so I probably don't meet the criteria.

    Oryx,

€60, where did you get that price. Only looked at one (Leinster Sports Clinic) and they quated me €130!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,992 ✭✭✭Plastik

Health Matters contacted our club and offered the testing for €60 a head, or €50 for a group of more than 15. They would come to you, or you could go to them (Tallaght).

Health Matters as per Plastik above. I was going to see if anyone else used them before giving them a go. 130 is closer to the going rate.

Would it be better value in the long run to get a VO2Max and Lactate Threshold test done together. Or is this possible?

Reasonably easy to do the two at the same time, my students do it in some of the labs I run out in Tallaght, I was going to say the place mentioned before was cheap but they do very little for the 60euro, I presume with the 130 you get lactate, HR, cadence, L/R distribution, minor adjustments to your bike fit (not a professional fit but suggestions for improvement), and possibly a few others.

If you want it cheap, do a 25mile TT and give it all you can, there is your limit, work on improving it (advice stolen from Leftism on another thread I think).

That will give me a fair idea of threshold but won't tell me how near I am to my VO2 Max - i.e. how much more potential I might have??

    Hi guys,

For those that PM'd me, thanks for the interest and i'll be in touch on monday.

For those that fell outside the criteria, apologies but we have to set certain inclusion and exclusion criteria for ethical reasons, but also in order to attain a relatively homogenous data set.

However, anyone can test in Trinity for 60 euro. The Human Performance Lab which was set up by Prof. Maura O'Brien and Bernard Donne and is probably the most established testing lab in the country with well over 25 years of experience working with world class athletes.

Anyone that would like to book in for a VO2max test can drop me a PM with their contact details and book you in!
