i just watched this movie and found myself in awe of tom hardy...up until this point i didnt care much for him
what a courageous role to play...imagine deciding to yourself 'yup i can do that'!

the reason im posting up here about it is im wondering if i get a bit mesmerized by the courage alone required to play a part like th, then that becomes what i am impressed by the mostt ..was the acting that amazing...?

for example 'fear and loathing' benicio del toro now that was courageous acting and just mindblowing acting at the same time...he actually WAS that character

i hope someone gets what im saying here....any thoughts?

Just watched it too and he was fantastic in it.

    Should be brilliant as Bane.

First noticed him in the Sky mini series The Take. He played such an evil, twisted character to perfection that I knew he was going to be a star based on that alone.

I'm a fan. He does a great turn in Warrior and a softer part in Tinker Tailor. Inception under his belt as well. I have no doubt he'll be great in Batman.
I felt the same as you OP when I watched Bronson the first time.

Bronson is seriously weird movie...Its like cross between "A Clockwork Orange" and "Fight Club"...

As for Tom, his been brilliant in everything I've him in, especially "Warrior"

Really hope his awesome as Bane tomorrow

Since you're in the Film forum, it can be about all of the above apart from (b)

Like super furry I first saw him in the take and shortly afterwards in Bronson. I was blown away. I watched the movie again straight away. Insanely good acting!!

I will be waiting a few weeks to see Batman as dont like a packed cinema and want to watch in peace!!

His real life story is very interesting from drug addiction to setting up his own theatre etc.................

Quite the fan of this film, a real modern classic.

He makes that film. He is absolutely incredible in that role.

Unfortunately, my copy of the DVD is back in my mother's house so haven't watched it ages but it is one of my favourite films of recent years, purely for Tom Hardy's performance.

Loved that movie, its so off kilter but all the better for it, his monologues to the audience are brilliant. "prison...was...BRILLIANT! I liked it personally, naw fcuk that, I loved it!"

The movie was amazing, a real piece of art and I dont often find myself saying that about movies with a lot of violence
What do you think drives method acting like that...Is it love for the art, a need for extreme or just plain old big ego?
They always seem to be a little on the edge anyway, it seems like method acting is risky when it comes to general wellbeing of the actor
Im fascinated with the lengths actors will go to and wonder what the payoff is when they do

The payoff is usually an amazing film, take Deniro for example. For taxi driver he went out, got a taxi license and drove cabs around new york for months. For raging bull he did ridiculous amounts of training as a boxer and had a couple of amateur fights if i remember correctly. Then for the last part of the film he gained something like 80 pounds to play the old Jake LaMotta, literally damaging his own health to play a part, and he played it amazingly well. 2 brilliant films that were made brilliant by the level of dedication of the starring actor.

So you think love for his art then? What I meant was the reward in terms of personal satisfaction....what do you take home from the experience of making a movie where you have given so much of yourself, besides health problems...
