sorry if this thread has been started but checked first 5 pages to no avail.

I am thinking about starting a degree course through distance learning but i haven't the foggiest when it comes to this side of the education spectrum. both from the distance angle and the types of computing courses available. If anyone can shed some light on this for me it would really appreciate it.

I know its a very vague question but i really don't know where to start with this.

Have a look at the open university and Oscail.

Also look at your local university/Institute of Technology website.
