Has anyone had got their car re-mapped my these lads ? A mate of mine is thinking of getting his A3 2.0 TDI re-mapped and I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this crowd ?
    Cheers.

The only person I'd let near my car to map it is tdr.ie. Joe power is the best in the business at it.

Even Joe had to start off somewhere tbh, as long as it's done at an address and not in the back of a Van atleast you have some recourse

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,102 ✭✭✭✭Drummerboy08

Why would you want recourse? Most people would want it done right the first time.

Who is to say it won't be done right the first time, as i said everyone has to start off in the business, even Joe had to.

But why wouldn't you want someone who you know can do the job right to do it in the first place?whye take that risk

Like everything in life do your research first and you won't get stung

No doubt Joe has made a mistake or two, I'm sure he doesn't get it right first time, everytime :)

You're right here, do your research and you'll find that Joe is the best in the game on these shores, and possibly in the UK too.

I'm sure he has too, but he's less likely to make one compared to someone else given his experience with this area.

I agree that everyone has to start off somewhere, but at the same time, when there is someone who is already widely regarded as the best in the business then you would go to him if you wanted to be assured, by proven record, that your pride and joy was in good hands.

If this protune crowd have a premises with a rolling road for correct, accurate and safe mapping, then you could try them as this shows they have invested in more then a laptop and some software, which is what many diesel 'tuners' use.

Edit: I've just looked at their website..they are just downloading pre written maps which does not match individual cars needs.

Use somebody you can trust but make sure its done on a rolling road. Anything else is a compromise, as the doc says pre written maps are not the way to go. Every car is different

Excuse my ignorance on the subject....(and im not disagreeing with anything said above, I'm just wondering)
surely every car comes standard with a pre written map?(i mean they dont map each one specially as it leaves the factory:) )
And by that token unless ur tuning the bollocks out of something, I would have presumed that a standard remap, ie 20-30bhp extra which seems about the norm, would be perfectly fine on a standard car.
I'd be very surprised if 90% of maps weren't pre written.

I don't know of Protune, but I can have used Joe Power and I can recommend him.

    +1.

Joe mapped (and dpf deleted) the wifes 1.6 TDCI 110hp Focus on a rolling road last year and made a custom map for the engine based on the data from the baseline run and an intermediate run.

The difference was really night/day. Joe gets my thumbs-up:cool:

Yes most are pre-written, but its pre-written to a huge batch of engines and needs to incorporate wide tolerances with a minimum quality of fuel as no two engines are ever identical.

Some engines have better/worse tolerances from the same "batch" so it will have a major influence on the compression/power delivery and with a relatively good quality of fuel in this country so the engines true power is not available.

By running the car on a dyno it will show where the weakness/strengths lie on that engine so a custom map will suit it better

What kind of money are these re-mapps?

Joe power all the way,i trust him from my past dealings with him,his after sales service and general good vibe i got from him,not because he has a premises.

My local main Audi dealer have premises - it's huge with glass frontage and shiny signs but my trust for them is low.

I was browsing around reading about ECU remapping do's and dont's and came across the following thread on another forum
    http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/ipb/index.php/topic/268217-ecu-rs-remapping/

Don't know about you but I would n't trust my pride and joy to a franchise :)

I agree. Protune Louth made an awful mess of my car. His attitude was that
re-mapping is at the car owners risk...he has nothing to loose. A good man at his job should always stand over his work. I got fed up phoning him. He wouldn't answer or return calls. Run a mile from this guy!!!

Hmm, sounds like you are agreeing with yourself there. :D
