looking at buying a mobile cattle crush, we have a crush at home and on the block of land away from the yard but no headlocking gates, so i think a mobile one would solve the problem as it can be used in both places
was looking at this one from nugent http://www.nugentengineering.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=266&Itemid=306

its around 1050 euro, just wondering has anyone used one of have any opinions on them or any other brand, there is a more higher spec version form 2000 euro upwards with more bells and whistles, hard to know if its worth it

I've looked at it and I really don't like that design. The one we have has a door at both ends which is a far better option in my view.
Also, you can't weigh the animals. For that money, I'd want to be able to weigh them too. The front head gate is very poor design. There are much better systems out there.

The one we have is similar to this with the addition of being able to weigh the animals too. What I like about it is when the animal is in it securing their head is relaitvely easy thanks to the two gates in the front section which swing in to lock the animals head. The Nugent version means you have more hassle securing the animal. Also, if you look closely below, the front can open out of the way so you can dose, tag, without gate getting in the way.
We never use the through bar at the back as most designs have a serious flaw in that if the animal jiggles the bar, it is possible for it to fall out or worse still, come out at one side and rotate towards the operator around one side acting as a pivot point (if you see what I mean).
Definitely get one which can weigh. We bought ours in similar condition to this, spent £60 getting it sandblasted and then sprayed it outrselves. Good as new.

Take a look at the first one on this page. His stuff is usually quite good: http://whrea.co.uk/20779/20806.html?*session*id*key*=*session*id*val*

Sorry, I can't see if Rea's first one it suitable for 3 point linage but he should have some in stock.

Also, you will already know this, but be careful with your back window when transporting these. If you are going on the road with them, they do stick out at both sides - so you need to be extra careful with traffic and ditches.

Looking at that Nugent one again, I think you'd be mad to by something like that and especially at that price.

Take a look here, it might give you some better ideas as to what you might get: http://issuu.com/mcveigh_parker/docs/complete_catalogue_agricultural_2010?mode=embed&layout=http://skin.issuu.com/v/grass/layout.xml&showFlipBtn=true

thanks for the info The Nugent one was only 7ft long so would not stick out too far either side of the tractor, i was concerned it looked a bit light and the other thing like you say was the width on the bottom, it seems to slope in a lot
we would not be putting cows etc through it just lighter stock however so i thought it might get us out,
was considering making one but i dont think you would do it much cheaper
has anyone made there own version or bought a different brand ?

Was on a farm walk for the BTAP last week and the farm we were on had one the same as this http://www.nugentengineering.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=269&Itemid=306 . I thought it was a fair piece of kit and its in my head to get one sometime over the coming years. He said nhe had it a few years but it cost 2k new and he got the vat back on it. I didnt think it was too dear because there is a lot in them.

We have one almost identical to the Nugent. If you get an animal into them they're a great tool. They are ideal on an outfarm situation where you have to handly small numbers of cattle non-routinely.
The width on the bottom was never an issue with us and we've had big cattle through it.
A neighbour got a loan of ours when testing because his crush was fine but had no skullung gate and it worked great for him at the top of his crush.
A couple of years ago we left it on the slats and used to AI the cows using it as they came around. It worked well.

You'd be better off buying a second hand one and tidying it up. As I said, ours is similar to the green one in my initial reply above although we painted it red. I can't for the life of me remember the brand name of it though - it is an English company.

What a heap of sh*te! :pac: A ten year with a rope halter would hold that small quiet cow, no crush required.
