School me on wipers

My current wiper blades (Bosch) are shot. Apart from the perished rubber the one metal frame has a bit of slop in it which is noisy and irritating, so simply replacing the blade itself is not an option.

I had a look in Halfords the other day but when I saw the prices I ran out of there as fast as I could. Even their own brand is dear enough I thought.

Checked eBay and found an array of wipers including the "old fashioned" metal frame ones as well as the newer flat blade type, with/without wind deflectors, made from rubber, dual rubber, silicone, polyurethane, some teflon coated, some graphite coated .....etc. All claiming superior performance of course.

The cheapest 22"/24" wipers can be had off eBay for around $6-7 each delivered, but are they any good? I suspect not and would hence rather pay more and get a decent set which will do the job properly and last a few years.

    Opinions/experiences please?

Flat blades don't tend to make noise as the wiper changes direction

Flat blades in tesco are quite good and not expensive

If a seven euro set of blades only lasted one year and the Bosch lasted 5 then I'd still be saving money with the cheapies.....

In saying that, I still just bite my tongue and buy the Bosch.

I tried valeo flat blades the last time & i thought they were kind of crap as they didnt wipe very well at the edges. When not in use i could see where they werent making contact with the windscreen properly.

Try wiperblades.co.uk for prices for bosch.

Tesco flat blades fell apart on my after virtually no time.

Bosch AeroTwins on my car and my previous van lasted a huge amount of use, they're worth paying for as they last.

Nightmare getting correct wipers for my car, they're 2 different sizes. I recently got Bosch ones from Micks Garage and they were worse than the ones I replaced.

Apparently there are thousands of fake Bosch ones out there, I might just bite the bullet and get the correct sizes and brand from the dealer next time i'm up.

You're dead right OP, the cost of wipers is one of the reasons I am considering selling my car atm. I could live with the cost of fuel, the cost of repairs, insurance, tyres, tax, depreciation, etc etc, but the real killer was the cost of wipers. Almost put me off the road they did. Scandalous in this day and age. Luckily I came up with the idea of attaching used sheets of "Plenty" to the worn blades - they wipe the screen a treat, and true enough, "one sheet" does do plenty. A lifesaver.

Change mine at least one a year, if not every 6 months.

Any sign of a line on the windscreen and they are replaced.

Always try and buy valeo wipers.

I don't mean to be insensitive but...are you skint or a bit tight? I just have a mental image of someone freakin out in Halfords and running out the door over a pair of wipers...
