Post-interview impatience: Waiting for that call back ...

    Hi everyone,

I had interview no. 3 with a crowd exactly a week ago, and they said they would get back to me either Friday or Monday. I've yet to hear anything .....

I followed up with the usual thank-you/expressed enthusiasm to work there letter. However, should I drop them another note or give a call?

Also, to my horror, I was 5 minutes late for the interview (my local Dublin Bike Station was down! grrr!). Am I being paranoid in thinking that would negatively impact me? I thought the interview went really well despite the late start, and towards the end we were talking contract terms and benefits, and obviously I apologised for the lateness.

Anyone who's been in this boat knows the waiting game is hell .... I'd appreciate any advice whether to hang tight or drop them a quick line (though at this point I really do feel the ball is out of my court).

    Thanks a lot!

I've always learnt to give a company a week after the last day they said they'd come back to me. You do get paranoid, but you should always assume that the next day, is never the next day! Was it a company or agency?

Hi Antodeco, thanks for that. The job's with a company ... and I know the team I would be working on are totally swamped right now, which might explain a lot too.

    Hi Sue,

if they gave you a date and haven't replied within that time frame, take the intiaitive and call them. Leave it that if you require further information or help on any aspect of my application and suitability for the post then don't hesitate to contact me etc. Point of the call is to find out where they are at and are you still in the frame.

Don't hesitate abut this as in the current environment there is plenty of choice and candidates.

    Best of luck with it.

    Thanks for the words, Finisklin.

I rang a few minutes ago and it went to voicemail. I left a message so here's hoping the silence stems from a hectic schedule, and not otherwise ....

Really nervous about this, as if it falls through, I'll more than likely have to go abroad.

So the voicemail has now been followed-up with an email ....

God, for something that seemed so promising, this is just cruel at this stage.

    Why do employers do this?

    Hi Sue,

You didn't get it then. Head up and onwards and upwards.

Learn the lesson that if they don't contact you by the time they indicate then follow up at that stage. Take the initiative.

I hope you have some more irons in the fire.

    Best of luck.
