    Hi All,

I hope it is ok to post here. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on recent tests that they have failed or passed in Finglas. I would be interested of hear of any tricky parts of the test that could arise especially with tricky junctions, mini round abouts or anything like that. I have read through a lot of the posts on here already but a lot of them are not too recent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I failed in Finglas recently so guess I can help out on bits I found tricky

    - Make sure to be familiar with the junction in Finglas village, it's a bit confusing if you've never gone through it before. Try to practice coming at it from different directions.
    - I didn't do it in the actual test, but the junction of ballymun road, griffith avenue and mobhi road (think that's right, had to get help with the names!) I found tricky during a pretest. Changing from the right lane to the far left is difficult if there's lots of traffic.
    - Wadalei park; when I first came across this I thought it was a large roundabout  So just to be aware of it!
    - Speedbumps. Practice in the area as much as you can to get used to which roads have bad ones and which ones aren't as bad so you know for the day in terms of what speed/gear to take them in.

Those are some of the things I had practiced, but one of the things that got me on the day were miniroundabouts!! I had practiced these, but not enough I guess. There was one in particular I was told afterwards I should have stopped before going onto it because there was no way I could've seen what was coming from the right. I mounted another raised one without meaning to... I guess I just came at it at the wrong angle/speed so just make sure to practice with those ones; especially turning right.

Other things that I just messed up for no particular reason other than nerves, but have nothing to do with the finglas route in particular:
    - Taking off from the side of the road (after hillstart and reversing around corner). Make sure to check mirror, indicate, check blind spot.
    - Observation when reversing. Spend so much time checking over my left shoulder that he said I didn't check the right at all.

If you haven't already done a couple of pretests I'd definitely recommend them. They can take you on the most common routes and give you tips for the different areas.

Hope that was some help... at least I can give others advice from my failing :P The best of luck!

    Hi Woodchuck,

I'm sorry to hear you failed the test but thank you so much for posting the above. I really appreciate it. I have failed before so I know how heartbreaking it is but it really can just come down to your confidence on the day I think. I failed 1 test with 1 blue, 1 green and 1 red where I got over excited turning in to the test centre in Galway! I was gutted but got over it eventually. My only mistake was waiting 2 years before booking the test again but hindsight is 20/20 vision as they say. Thanks again for the advice and best of luck in the next test!

Which junction in Finglas Village are you talking about? The one leading to Jamestown Road and McKee Avenue?

Yup that's the one! It's not that's 'difficult' really, but it's just one to be familiar with because there are 5 different roads intersecting so depending on which ones you're going too and from it's good to know how to indicate correctly and when you need to go around the little island in the middle.
