Putting a previously banned driver on my Insurance.

Just a quick question, My Dad's 1 year ban for drink driving is shortly up and hes been asking me to inquire about putting him on my Insurance as a named driver (which I don't really want to do at all) I'm 21 , provisional licence with only a 1 year NCB and I don't really want anyone else potentially interfering with that so I more than likely won't be doing it. Just wondering anyway if I was to contact my insurance about it would I be wasting my time even asking about doing this? I only have fairly basic knowledge when it comes to insurance so any info would be great.

I've an Axa Student policy and it lets you put parents onto your policy as named drivers for free. When I did it, all they asked for was parents names, I don't think they even asked for driver licence number.

Might be worth a look if you're a student

The only people who can answer your question are your insurance company, but i'd be amazed if they didn't load you heavily for his conviction.

Is there not normally an endorsement on a driving license for a couple of years after a drink-driving ban as well?

After a ban or with an endorsement expect to be crucified by insurance companies, even if its only as a named driver. But as Anan1 said, only your insurance company can answer that question.

    Ignore this.

Basically, you "can" do it but if the Insurer will accept him is another story.

Call them and ask. Make sure they're aware that your father has a conviction etc and make him pay the extra if they do take him :)

Tell your Dad to sort himself out, he's your dad, your not his, its not up to you to fix his mistakes.

If it was supposed to be easy to get insurance after a drink driving ban then he'd get his own insurance.

What would he do if you weren't there ?

Why so rude, the guy speaks of family not some random stranger,he made a mistake, did his time for it,thats why people have families to take care of each other no matter what.
As to OP the drink driving will stay in records for 10 years, ridiculous but this is reality, most companies wont even insure or quote for that but possible to get as a named driver, but expect at least 2-3k on top or even more, depending what you drive to get him on the road.
