Unfortunately it was announced that King has retired due to injury today. Can't say we didn't see it coming but still isn't nice to see him off. He was a great leader and did so much service to the club, thanks Ledley!

Ledley you will be sorely missed on the pitch. a great captain who always put his body on the line, a devoted and loyal servant to this club. imo, a world class center back when fit, and had it not been for his injury problems, he would hav been one of the best CBs in the world.

hopefully you will continue to be involved with the club and will take up coaching.

thank you for your massive contribution to THFC.

My favourite Tottenham player of all time. Very sad indeed, sacrificed his body for the club. Perhaps a defensive coaching role in the future?

Lovely temperament and a total gent, never saw him loose his cool. Henry had said he was one of the toughest defenders to play against but also the fairest.

Farewell to a legend of the lane

I was there when he made his home debut, he's been my favourite player ever since, a Rolls Royce defender, just oozed class

    Long live the King.

Spurs legend and a model pro.

    You'll be missed.

And I read he scored more goals then he got yellow cards. Great stat for a defender if true.

I hope that he stays around the club, what a legend. On his day, there was nobody that could get past him. Respect

I have said it a few times but if things had gone just a little different for him I honestly believe he would have gone on to be one of England's greatest defenders.

Really sad to see him gone as like many of you I remember his first season.

What a legend, sad to see him retire so early. I hope he hangs around and some of his attitude, professionalism and loyalty gets passed on to the rest of the squad.

    Interesting article by Sarah Winterburn.

Makes a good argument for Ledley being the best English defender of his generation. Not sure how I feel about the subtle suggestion that if he had his fitness he would not have been with us his whole career

The King is dead. Long live the King!

Absolute hero of a man. #King26

I don't think there's a doubt that had he been injury free he would have gone elsewhere, probably to Utd as Fergie was a known admirer.

There's no doubt that he would have gone if he had been fit but that was our gain.
The best defender I've seen in a Spurs shirt and second only to Paul McGrath as the best ever imho. Only 8 yellow cards and no reds gives an indcation of how good a footballer he was.

A sad day for Ledley, the club and the supporters.

I cannot help but feel a little cheated, almost angry that we where robbed of such a talented player so so much of the last 5-6 years. I also feel desperately sorry for the man himself. (sorry as in regret not pity)

I'm sure nuetrals would accuse us of viewing ledley through tinted glasses somewhat but I have no doubt that without the injuries he could have went on to be mentioned in the same breath as players like Thuram, Maldini, McGrath etc.

Very few players leave you in awe of them.
Even less of them are defenders...

Stunning player, anyone who thinks he wasn't one of the best defenders in the past 20 years and couldn't have went on to go down in history as the best English defender can come have a word with me and I'll set them straight :)
