Hi, What is the pressure vessle used for in a negative head pump and how often should you need to re pressurize the vessle?
My pump is activated from flow switches. I am trying to understand the need for the pressure vessle.

The pressure vessel in simple terms is used to give the pump a wall to push against when none exists. a pump on its own uses gravity to aid it but in a negative head situation there is no gravity so the pressure in the vessel is used.

Thats the simplest i can put it.

I think you have to ask some experts so that they will solve your problem. Don't try your own hand because we always stopped at worse point. Always we have to take suggestion from experts.

Thanks Joey, My pump is intermittently comming on during the day for a couple of seconds for no reason. No leaks that I can see. I was thinking of inflating the pressure vessle with a bicycle pump in case it has lost pressure. Do you know if this is ok to do?

You will need a pressure gauge also and have to depressurize the water side first, pump for car tyre will do.

Great explanation Joey, have stored that one under lock and key until needed again!
