Just saw this event, I'm local but am not involved

    http://www.runireland.com/events/rush-festival-10k-fun-run

Suits me so I think I'll sign up. Lovely running area too.

Edit, it should read Sat 4th August. Can a mod change the title please?

A mate of mine who I run with lives up there. Think we're both going to enter.

Anyone know if its more of a 'fun run' than a 'serious' race?

they organised one at Christmas, it had plenty of club runners and plenty of fun runners, so i would say that was more fun run. This time they have chip timing too I so I would say they are trying to get it more club based but I would say anyone is welcome.

They had the same race last August as well. I stumbled across it on a training run and found myself running against the field. Made a mental note to enter it in 2012, so will be there this year.

Spoiled for choice in North County Dublin over consecutive - the 10k in Swords on Sunday, the 4k/8k/12k in Lusk on Sunday week and this race in Rush the following Sunday!

Do you have details on the Lusk race?

    Some info here

From what I've heard it's a 4k route starting and finishing on the village green with loops of the bypass

Anybody have a route map for this? Can't find one on the runireland page or the event link. Looking forward to it.

    This is it

Hopefully it's not too windy. I do a lot of my speedwork on this loop and you can suffer from a killer headwind sometimes. Pretty much pancake flat though - bit of an uphill around the 4k and 8k points.

Cheers for the map Peckham and the heads up on the wind. Looks like conditions might be challenging tomorrow.

Turned out lovely in end! Rush is a great spot, people were so friendly. Great value for 15e.

Decent enough event, although no excuse for the course being long. Why not start it 400 metres up the road and make it an accurate 10k?

Course is well suited to a shot at a PB, and that was my intention given the good weather conditions, but that went out the window when they announced at the start about the extra distance.

Crossed the line in 38:15 after a decent chase after the guy in front of me over the final kilometre.

Initially Disappointed at the extended 10k but got to realise it was a FUN run. Lovely course, PB, credit to town it looked fantastic. Hope to go back there next year.

I had a strange experience during this race. I finished in about 47 mins so by no means am I one of the front runners.... There was a woman who ran right behind me from about 4 or 5 km into the race. There were large groups roughly 200m in front and behind us so we were essentially on our own.

Every time we passed spectators they shouted to her "well done Margaret" - "going well Margaret" etc. so it was obvious she is well known in the area.

At one point I slowed and she came along side me and I said "seems you're a local celebrity Margaret" to which she replied "I'm not talking to you" - and then she tucked back in behind me again!

She was trying to 'drift' off me, and when I realised this I slowed down to let her pass.... She wouldn't. When I sped up she stayed with me, when I slowed down she stayed with me. This happened a few times between 7 & 9 km. for the last km I put the boot down and lost her.

It just seemed bizarre as we weren't exactly competing for a top 10 spot or anything, plus - it was a FUN run!!!

This was only the second running of the event and while I might be a bit biased I think it was excellant and credit due to the organisers. They also got some positive feedback from runners and will hopefully build on that. There was a very good atmospher around the course with plenty of people out encouraging people on.

I think this will grow and might also become a little more serious and yet maintain the fun factor for casual runners. A new running group has been formed in Rush and this will hopefully help.

Some photos have been posted on Rush Needs you facebook page also www.eventsnappers.com and on Leo Bissett's facebook page

There is another run in Rush on 9th of Sept "The 2 beachs 10k". Great interest in this already.

    Congrats to all who competed.

Does anybody know if the Christmas Rush 10k is the same course?

    http://www.runireland.com/events/christmas-rush-5k-and-10k-fun-run

I'm interested in doing it but if the course is longer than 10k it might put me off.
