My mum has been told she needs a saorview aerial to get saorview. I was planning on just buying her a Ferguson 150 combo box and plugging in the cables and tuning it in !

back story - My mam arranged for a satellite / saorview installer to look over her system so shes all ready for the changeover.

At present she has an aerial on the roof to get Irish channels (incl TV3 and TG4) and a satelitte (not Sky) for everything else. Shes in Dublin

Theyve recommended a new saorview aerial, an addition (dont know what) to be attached to her satellite and a quad lnb. (She has one other tv that has saorview built in and a sat box attached)

It all sounds like a lot of work for something thats been promoted as easy to do! Any opinions on the aerial ?? Is it really as complicated as the installers are making out or should i just go ahead and do it myself

Thanks for any opinions / advice :)

No new "Saorview/digital" aerial required if she has analogue TV3/TG4, existing aerial will be OK for Saorview. Nothing extra required for the satellite dish. Just plug and play on both.

No such thing as a digital or Saorview aerial - http://www.goingdigital.ie/Info/Top+Questions/Do+I+need+an+aerial+to+receive+Saorview.htm
Do I need a digital aerial?
There is no such thing as a digital aerial. You need a standard UHF aerial to get SAORVIEW. Most people already have this type of aerial. If you get TV3 with your aerial, that aerial is likely fine to get SAORVIEW.

If they hadn't locked up motorbike-man from BBC's Rogue Traders maybe they could have done an episode on this cowboy.

Are you sure she has a satellite, they are normally 22000 miles away in the Clarke belt? I assume she has a dish.

You say she has a sat box in another room. In that case the LNB will need to be upgraded to a quad to use the combi box as well.

    The aerial should be OK.
