Skyping

So a few weeks ago, I asked for ways to annoy my housemate who skypes for hours on end. It was pretty bad in that he also had the volume up high and I could hear the whiny cow he talks to. I have asked him to use head phones which he does. But it doesn't shut him up.

I have tried to stink up his room so he wouldn't sit in there for hours. The neighbours cat visits us, I feed him and got him his own litter box for the house. I tried picking the cat up while he uses the litter box and throw him into his room thinking the cat might get the hint. But he runs out back to the box.

I've pulled out the internet wire. Hit the power switch with all the buttons. I have hoovered so much.

How do I shut this ****er up. Its no joke, its 7 days a week, 5 or 6 hours every day, morning, noon and night.

You know you're putting a lot of energy in to sabotaging than actually "manning" up and asking the dude to keep it down. :pac:

Anyone else picture a cow in a field in Ireland with a laptop complaining to his housemate on Skype?

"Oh it was an awful day today. It rained constantly, I stepped in cow pat and there was no good grass to eat either. Also my cow-mates are sitting down so I think it's going to rain again soon as well :("

Don't ever consider a career that involves any kind of strategy or planning will you? If it becomes untolerable in his room then he'll just Skype in communal areas and do your head in even further. Or is that what you want?Your moniker would suggest so.....

Wait until he goes asleep and make as much noise as you can,
keep waking him up to ask him stupid questions,
wait until he needs to use the bathroom and go lock yourself in there for ages,
when he goes out move his stuff around,
    hide everything,
    sit where he usually sits,
turn up everything , tv, radio, ringtone, sing and whistle all day long,
when he speaks to you shout back at him,
when he puts clothes in the washing machine unplug it,
    leave everywhere in a mess,
    eat his food,

Instead of morphing into the psychotic house mate, why don't you just fücking talk to him again?

He was obliging when you asked him to use headphones, just raise the issue with him again an tell him he still a bit on the loud side.

It may be his settings or hardware.
When I'm on skype, I have a desktop mic about a 12 to 15 inches away, I can talk at a pretty low volume (almost a mumble) and the other person can hear me just fine.

What he should do is go into the skype options and disable the auto mic level, just set it to max and leave it there, also go into the windows system mixer and turn the mic volume all the way up. If you poke around in windows volume control there might also be a checkbox for extra gain too.

I'm not using an expensive mic, but I have a fairly decent soundcard which doesn't get a lot of noise like some on-board sound chips.
If he's using a laptop's built in mic that could be a problem too. I can't hear a fucking thing when people are using them. So an external mic that he can direct towards his mouth would be good.

It could be that the person he's talking to needs to turn up their own speaker volume, or if that causes echo, get a pair of earphones themselves.

Maybe getting a headset that has a mic attached would work well. And/Or if noise/interference from the sound card is a problem, you can get external USB soundcards, which should be much improved. Or an entirely USB based headset that processes the audio too (though I'm not sure if that's a thing).
