    Bikers,

I am signing up to the cycle to work scheme but i plan on using the bike for leisure more than work purposes. I'm really interested in taking up cycling as a fitness hobby so i look to you for advise. Can anyone suggest a good starter bike that will be comfortable on longer distances. I dont want to break the bank.

Go to a bike shop first and have a chat about what might suit you /sizing and come back herev with a few suggestions and budget.

If your buying the bike through the BTW scheme then my advice would be to spend the whole €1000 on the bike and buy the gear yourself. I spent €900 on my bike and i'm sorry now that i didnt go the full grand and put another 100 or so with it to get something better spec'd. I didnt think i would get into it as much as i have and even though i've only had the bike less than 3 months i'm already thinking on upgrading although i will probably wait till next year sell my own and coax my wife to sign up to the scheme and get a bike (which she wont want and so i can take instead) :D
