    Hi all,
cycling from west waterford to Westport Friday.

Plan to cross the Shannon in O'Briensbridge or Ballina/Killaloe, what is best/scenic/safest route? planning to intesect N18 south of Gort?

Broadford-Tulla or Killaloe/Scarriff seem to be the options

Some ugly cycling after that (traffic wise) to outskirts of Galway.

Thankful for any advice in advance

I found the East side of Lough Derg to be more scenic than the West, but that's Tipp rather than Clare an a bit out of your way maybe.
There is a good ol climb between Killaloe and Scariff!
Have only a vague idea of the countryside round O'Briens bridge, broadford, tulla. Some nice looking spots around there IIRC.

I couldn't chance the east side of Lough Derg, in case I run into anymore Tipp lads, had enough since last Sunday
Don't mind a bit of climbing, 600ft is as high as it gets I think

I'd do Ballina- Killaloe to Tuamgraney.

    From Tuamgraney you could
    - continue onto scariff then take the road to feakle. At Peppers pub (about 9km) a right to caher/killanena. You could continue along there until the turnoff for Flagmount. Here you have two choices
    - continue onto killanena etc. this will take you to the N18 near gort
    - take the turn off for flagmount, cycle up and around the edge of lough graney. There are some nice views around here. The road evtually has a turn off for gort (i've never taken it though, so don't know what it is like) The surface of the road around lough graney is ok - not the best. Staying on the road for killanena will give you a better surface.

Back in tuamgraney, your other option is to turn left and head for ennis, then turn right at the turn for feakle and then follow the routes from above when you get to peppers (except you'll turn left at peppers :P)

Enjoy, there's some nice cycling around that way.

Just back from the west, smashing cycle, the route from Killaloe to Gort was lovely, went via Scarriff and Feakle.
    Thanks for input..

How many km did you average per day. What type of bike - tourer, hybrid, road? Did you stay in hotels/hostels or bring a tent?
