Planet X Carbon wheelset with tubs...

Brand new Planet X carbon wheelset, Shimano, 80mm front 100mm rear, with Challenge Crono tubulars, skewers and carbon brake pads. Ridden for exactly 19.8km, which is 19.7km longer than it took me to realise my long standing, albeit possibly irrational, discomfort with the idea of tubulars will never go away, and that this was definitely one of my more stupid purchases. I just can't relax on them and so any possible performance gain is wiped out. They do ride bloody well though...

Wheels are on sale on Planet X for €503 at the moment, without the tubulars. I'm looking for €550 for wheels complete with tubulars, will also include an Sram force 11-25 cassette.... (tubs are €81.47 each here http://www.wiggle.co.uk/challenge-crono-tubular-tyre/ ), so to buy new would set you back over €660, ex delivery.

    Based in Dublin 18...

Offer €250 for the front only.

I can collect tonight, otherwise I'll withdraw the offer (I have a TT tomorrow).

Hadn't actually thought about splitting them to be honest, will see what happens over the next few hours and get back to you... If some wants the rear wheel with tub, cassette and pads for 300 let me know....

(edited via mobile due to maths error screwing myself out of 50 on the split...)

Sorry for the delay getting back, thanks for the offer but at the risk of winding up stuck with the set I reckon I'll keep them for sale together, I'm open to reasonably sensible offers for the set though....

    Afraid not...

Edit: Now that I think of it I do have a wheelbox I got a set of Mavics in, it's obviously fairly sturdy, I've no problem posting but its obviously messy from an inspection point of view...These are well worth a road trip for you though!!

These are actually €566 on Planet X here:http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPX2010CAR82101/planet_x_pro_carbon_82_101_wheelset

So, complete with Tubs you're talking over €720 new, plus whatever the Cassette costs... Need to move these so final rock bottom price drop to €500...

Last call for any takers, will give these 1 more day here before closing the sale and throwing them on ebay.

Maybe the universe is telling you to keep them? With ebay&paypal fees you might be better off facing your fear! What exactly are you worried about anyway

It was the universe that made me buy them (and the attached bike) in the first place so no surprise it's trying to make me keep them! I just can't relax on them, the whole idea of them just being glued onto the rim doesn't sit right with me (no pun intended). Doesn't make much sense I know, but the short ride I did on them was enough to make me realise I'd never relax properly on them.

the rims are made from thin strands of carbon glued together!

use the same glue thats used for track tyres, its needs 24hrs of drying. because of the very steep banking in velodromes they need to be extra secure on the rim

Strangely enough I've no problem with the idea of the rim being glued together, it's just looking down at the front wheel and thinking the tub could roll that gets me.... Might look into the track tyre glue, for now though it looks like nobody is interested in these so I'll close the sale...

Are the decals under or over the clear coat?

i.e. is it possible to remove them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 890 ✭✭✭Statler

Decals are under the coat, don't think they'd come off...

    Thanks, I'm definitely out then.

I did research what was required to remove decals under clearcoat, and I'm not sure I can be arsed.

Good luck with the sale, they're a nice set of wheels.
