Down Sizing My Car - Advice needed

    Hi All

    Just after some advice.
My car is worth around €11000 on the open market.

I am not working at the moment and want to down size my car to cash in on my assets.
I am really able to get away with a much smaller vehicle and would be looking around paying the €4K mark.

My question is would a dealer be interested in helping me down size at all and let me buy the cheaper car and give me a cash amount?
I know I would not get €11000 this way, but would anyone have any idea on the amount I may be likely to receive?
I am not at all knowledgeable of these areas and appreciate any guidance.
    Thanks

If you think your car is worth 11k, the dealer thinks it's worth maybe 6k.

Sell the car privately, you'll get the most possible for it then.

unless you have finance on the car, keep it.

every time you change cars via a dealer, you loose money.

as per monkey, sell privately if you want to realise cash, but I doubt you will realise that much. Decide what is not worth it.

A dealer, like any commercial operation, is out to make money. They will not give you anything near the €11k you think your car is worth , probaly around the €8k mark.

What car is it? Year/Model/Spec/Mileage/body shape and we will advise

Bigaudio.... As others have said changing your car will cost you & I know you might need the money but if you want/need a car maybe keep what you have (if it's giving you no trouble) you'll most likely get less than you think for your pride & joy and you might for e4000 be buying other peoples problems & a few repair jobs will quickly use up your spare cash....

Thanks very much for all of your responses. I believe the message is very much loud and clear - sell privately if I have to!
I certainly do not want to sell, it is a lovely car. Kia C'eed SW (Estate) gs, diesel, 08 plate, 53000 Miles, over 3 years transferable warranty left and already NCT'd until Sept 2014.

In fairness, going by the carzone prices that is what its worth.

That is certainly where I have been taking my guidelines from in terms of value.

Well to be fair Carzone is ridiculously overpriced itself. Possibly cars listed are at 120% of their market value/.

Oh sorry I was pointing out the prices on carzone.
Carzone had always being a terrible place to actually judge prices of cars in reality. Saying that all Kia's seem to be holding value on carzone considering. Must be fact they all have warranty on them so people feel like they can charge a premium!

    Hi
Where is a good site/publication to get a realistic valuation from? Thanks

    Did you try Donedeal?

The prices on there and other sites are more realistic, the 11k on carzone is the over inflated price garages will charge.
Not the money you'll get off a garage or anyone buying it privately.

Agree only way to sell is privately and for real price not what you or carzone thinks.Warranty is good plus but everyones who looked into it knows that different parts have different warranty time for them,so 7 years is for the least parts to brake or get damaged. So rather thinking on spending 4-5k on another car drop it to 1-2k jap Honda or Toyota with under 100k miles (as theres plenty to choose from now) and you might end up with 6-8k in your pocket if lucky, until you come back on your feet.
