    Hi Guys

I just got Pro tools 9 have been messing around with it. When I bounce to Disk, can I mix down at that stage i.e. I was to adjust instrument sliders on the track while the mix down is happening.

I used a Tascam 2488neo workstation before and during the mix down process I would normally use sliders for the instrument tracks

Sorry for the dumb question, I can't find anything online about it

Big fat NO. You should have everything ready for master before you bounce out a mix. That includes automation.

If it's your first DAW don't worry about mastering, get used to getting good mixes first then worry about it. It's a different beast. There is plenty of tutorials online for pro tools if you have problems.

Have a look at SOS producers book can't remember the exact name of it, but will be helpful.

I never use "bounce" for PT.
I find it much better to record back through a bus when mixing in the computer (not using a mixing console). I do a lot of film and ad mixes and bounce is a pain if you need to change 1 thing somewhere, especially in Pro Tools where there is no offline bounce.

Send all outputs to a stereo bus then create 1 stereo master fader 1 stereo audio track and 1 stereo aux track. Set the input of all of these to the bus that all tracks are being sent to. Put the volume to zero on the audio track. If you hit record on this audio track it will record the mix. set the output of the aux to your main stereo output. This is for monitoring (hearing) the mix.
(in PTHD you don't need the aux because you have input monitoring "I" on audio tracks)
The master fader can be used for any mastering fx or compressor etc.

Once you have recorded the mix, select the region on the arrange page and it will be highlighted in the region list. Right click it in the region list and export it as an interleaved stereo file.

This may sound a bit complicated but if you try it it's easy enough to set up.

Thanks. Yeah its my 1st DAW and its a bit daunting so far. I have gotten the Lynda pro tools tutorial series to look at, hope that helps. I will check out that book :)

Edit : I found the book

Yeah it seems a bit complex. I will look for some videos on how to do it.
Regarding exporting it is greyed out. Does it become available when I use your method ??

    Thanks again guys :o

I really don't get why Protools doesn't do offline bouncing like Logic.
As a Logic user, it's always baffled me.
