Hi All. So as the thread title says I am in need of a new phone. The Samsung Galaxy Y is doing my nut in. Telling me that my internal memory is completely full, no matter what I delete (I canni think what else to delete to be completely honest. All text gone, logs gone, unneeded reminders etc, unneeded pics. I can't delete contacts etc so....).

So These are the phones I am looking at (on billpay from payg, but still can't stretch to a lot of money on paying for the phone so...)

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2: €29.99 on billpay with a monthly of €25 ish for 200min/200texts/1gig and free meteor to meteor calls and texts.
It has: 3gb internal memory. Room for an sd card up to 32gig (doesn't come with any but I have 2x2gig sd cards to be going on with. 6hrs talk time (not the best bat life I would think, somewhere along the Y, which needs charging daily with the usage I give it - internet, fb notification, email notification, text and call). 3g and wifi etc. 3megapixel camera. Runs Gingerbread (no idea when it is up for upgrade).

HTC One V: pricing as above.
It has: 4 GB eMMc / 512 MB RAM - Cloud: 25GB Dropbox (free for 2 years) and room for sd card. Talktime: Up to 8h20 on 3G (WCDMA) / Up to 9 hours on 2G (GSM). 3g and wifi etc. Camera: 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, smart LED flash, and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures) megapixel. Runs: Android™ Ice Cream with HTC Sense™

    Xperia U: pricing as above.
It has: 8 GB, 512 MB RAM but doesn't support external memory. Talktime: Up to 6 h 36 min (2G) / Up to 5 h 36 min (3G). 3g wifi etc. Camera: 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash megapixel. Runs: Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread), planned upgrade to v4.0.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus: pricing as above.
It has: 512mb internal memory, external not supported. Talktime: 670 Minutes. 3g wifi etc. Camera: 5megapixel. Runs: Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread).

I'm thinking, just having typed them out, that the last one doesn't suit at all. But possibly the other three. Any input greatfully appreciated :D

Of those 4 phones, two stick out as being better than the other two. The sony Xperia U and the HTC V. Both are very good phones.
Sony: is the more powerful, Dual-core 1Ghz (HTC single core 1Ghz)
HtC: Better battery, has newer version of Android (Sony will probably get it soon)
What I would do is go into a store, look and pick up both of these phones, and buy the one you think looks and feels nicer. (Don't forget you will be stuck with your choice for the length of the contract before you'll get a new upgrade) In reality there is not too much difference, Hardware-wise but you will probably have a gut feeling to which you would rather. My personal taste edges towards the One V, but that is just me, There are as many good reasons to go for the Sony.

Thanks for the reply. Stupid question first, what is the difference between dual core and single core? Looking at the two (without having handled them) I am leaning towards the HTC. It has longer battery life (the battery on the Y is CAP!), but also it supports external storage (good for music and pix) and has dropbox. The Sony has more internal storage, but without having any external storage abilities it means EVERYTHING is going into that internal storage amount. Could prove problematic in the long run. But no decision made yet. As you said I need to get a feel for them etc as I will be stuck with it for the duration of my contract.

The processor is basically the engine of the phone. Dual-core 1Ghz means that it has basically two 1Ghz processors on the same chip. For example, instead of having a 1 litre engine it has two 1 litre engines.( not as good as a 2 litre engine). This means it can do certain tasks quicker, certain games, and can help video recording. But this mean it eats through the battery quicker because its running two cores all the time. Its a bit confusing but on day to day use you won't notice any difference.
