I have a 05 Toyota Corolla for sale with 80000Km on the clock. its a 3 door black hatchback model. I had an asking price of 4500 euro but have just received an offer of 4000 euro and told the buyer I will think about it and get back to him. Do you think I should just bite the bullet and accept it. It has a full service history recent one done February and the tax and NCT are still in date until December

Always allow afew hundred quid when pricing, if i was looking at a car and owner wouldn't budge on price i would walk away

Have you had anyone else come and see it, or had many enquiries?

Why didn't you split the difference?and try and get 4,250 off them.
Sounds like a decent little car OP,but you really shouldn't let interested partys get away;)

Tell him you'll accept €4300. If he doesn't then say "Split the difference" and go to €4150.

Its more I was thinking would I seriously be undervaluing it by accepting the offer in terms that the buyer would be getting a stell for this type of car when similar cars with more mileage have a higher asking price. Its not that I am desperate for the money or anything that I have to sell it asap. Its just that its gathering dust in the driveway. But then I was thinking that I might not get much above this offer agin if I reject it

    take it
them other cars are still for sale(with a higher price)
you are then in a strong position with cash in hand
you could wait a month to get an extra €200
lot of hassle showing your car to other messers too

well my advice would be to let the wad of cash collect dust in your pocket where it wont lose any value rather than the car which will, so what if he gets a bargain, you will get some good karma if nothing else for that end of the deal,TAKE THE MONEY!

just for the record i'm not the potential buyer !!

I don't know what it's worth but that sounds like a cracking little car for the money.

They might not necessarily have a higher selling price though.

I went through the process of buying a second-hand car a few months ago and was amazed at how high some of the private sellers pitched their cars, considering the amount of very similar cars available for far more competitive prices.

That said, from what I recall of prices at the time - and I looked at Corollas around the year of yours - even your original price seems fairly competitive. The question of whether you accept a lower bid is down to how quickly you want to shift the car and how little hassle you want in doing so I suppose. And if it's worth holding out for a few hundred euros that you might be a long time waiting for?

.... anyone with sense would say the 4k offer stands and not a cent more faced with that.
