Will Saorview TV work with Freeview DVD recorder?

We live in Wexford. Our current set up is an old analogue TV + this Sony DVD recorder.http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-RDR-HXD890-Freeview-160GB-Recorder/dp/B0018PRXWE
It has Freeview, an integrated digital and analogue tuner, and records hundreds of hours on hard drive. Perfect for how we watch.

We get all the UK stations we need on Freeview, plus the Irish stations on analogue. RTE1 reception is terrible for the past year or two (the others are fine) so we tend to use RTE player for RTE1.

We want a nice new TV so what's our best bet? If we get a Saorview TV can we carry on using our Freeview DVD recorder? If not, can we get one without Saorview, and use a separate Saorview box?

To be honest, the most important thing for us is to be able to record Freeview stations - but obviously we'd like to watch the Irish stations on TV as well.

    Thanks for any advice.

The type of tv you buy will have no effect whatsoever on the functioning of the DVD recorder or any other connected equipment.

Your recorder will continue to work for FreeView just as it does now. It will not work for Saorview. However, if you buy a SaorView box or TV, it may be possible to connect the recorder using a SCART cable. This will not record in HD but may give you a work-around for Saorview.

You need a Saorview input into your old dvd recorder. I doubt you'll find a TV that will produce a Saorview feed to the DVD recorder, but you will find a TV that can record to a USB stick or HDD.

If you just buy a Saorview Set Top box, you can connect it to the old DVD recorder with a scart lead and record away. There's no need for a new TV unless you just fancy one.
