No harm to go and run it and see how you fare. Depending how bad you got it you could be dead on your feet 3k in. I had one for the best part of two weeks did 2 sessions during that time and was flying for the first couple of reps then died a death. Mine was probably more virusey though.

Don't listen to the advice above, there's not a doctor, quack or otherwise, who'd advise you to jump in a race so soon after, the lingering effects can stay with you for weeks, and your immune system is probably riddled. There's 10ks every second week you can run, it's not an Olympic Games you've spent a year getting ready for, no good can come of it. Take time off and only run very easy until you feel right, and get yourself some probiotics.

Only you will know what is right for you, whether just some simple electrolyte replacement will have you back to where you were or whether you need more recovery time. Although if you've been off work, it was clearly not an insignificant dose. I would definitely encourage caution.

In a similar situation earlier this year where I faced the choice of missing a key target race, the most compelling advice I got was from a hugely experienced runner who said I might be making the choice between missing the race and being back to my pre illness fitness levels within a couple of weeks of proper recovery, or doing the race, delivering a poor performance and setting my fitness back a couple of months. Needless to say I missed the race.

Mod: Im closing this as this is medical advice and the people here don't know whether it was bacterial, viral etc and as such are probably not in the best position to give advice. If you are worried get checked out
