MacBook Air 2012 issue with Dock

    Hi,

    Has anybody else been having issues with the Dock taking up to 99% of the CPU?

    The first time it happened I wasn't sure what was going on with the machine. I knew the fan was going but didn't pay it any attention. Then I noticed the batter had been drained. I went into Activity Monitor and noticed the Dock was using 98.7% of the CPU. So I killed it and the fan stopped.

    I Googled it and it has been happening to others. I've not seen a definitive answer though. It has happened several times since.

    Has anyone heard of this?

    Parallels and VMWare are both known for causing this issue. Are you running either of them?

    No, not using either.

    I was using a custom background picture but I've since put it back to one of the default. I will see if that works.

    Just checked for software updates and it looks like Apple have released a fix for this issue.
    This update fixes an issue that can lead to increased CPU power consumption, and it improves compatibility with some USB devices. This update is recommended for all Mac notebooks introduced since June 2012.
