    Hi

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Mate of mine has made me aware of a project car that has been off the road for sometime in an unfinished state lying in a garage. Upon looking at it, he says that the log book has been lost and no number plates but took note of the chassis number and we discovered it was manufactured in Jan 79 from a decoding of the number.

It is an Irish Car so what I was wondering was what would need to be done to get replacement paperwork when a restoration is finished. We were thinking of purchasing it to do it up, Car is in sellers name btw.

I have seen a replacement old style log book before, are these still issued, or is that a thing of the past?

Also any idea what kind of Reg would be allocated, I presume 79-XX or a ZV, with a new style tax book would be the most likely result.
    Has anyone done this before?

If it is an original Irish car and you know the Irish number then that is the number you will get. You will need to go to the tax office and follow the procedure for a lost log book.;)

We know the chassis number, not the reg :( can it be traced from the chassis number?

Old style logbooks are still issued as replacement, I got one in April 2012.

It will create big difficulty not having the registration. It's definitely possible to find the registration number using the model, colour, chassis number and approximate time of registration. Finding an official who is willing to help you is less likely

Hello, I love trails like this, would you care to say the
make on here, that could narrow it down a lot e.g. Ford ,difficult, Riley, easier. then first stop is owners club. .Do you have any idea where it's from, north ,south ,east or west.
    Plenty of helpers on here.
    Regards,rugbyman

...as part of any club, it may well have been in photo's too, maybe from a show, or a previous owner etc - any clues to previous owners in the car ? Any service stickers etc ? Handbooks ?

If the previous or original owners were known, there's more than likely a picture sitting in a box/sideboard/album/on the wall, somewhere....

All you need is one pic to get it right.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
