test drove one of these today and i was highly impressed. Dealer said he wanted 5000. its 2003 with approx 113k miles auto/tiptronic box....There is a 12mth warranty with this. Or else I can take as is for 4500 no warranty. Told him id sleep on it and im going back in the morning for another look and probably going to close the deal. Any recommendations?? is it worth the 5k? only asking as I am not so much in the know about these cars

I would definitely pay the extra for the warranty they are expensive to fix and the quality issues were there in 03.

i would just go and buy one privately. i yet to see at least once warranty to be carried out properly by a dealer on second hand car. its like a cat and mouse game, which starts like this:

"hello, i bought car of you on X day, it broke down and i had warranty from you"
"ah sure, dont worry ill sort it out. ill give you a call in 5 minutes"
*no call after 24 hours and garage just ignores your calls. fun begins.

you should check if the timing chain has been replaced recently. not sure if it was an issue in 2003. i have a 2005 and cant fault it. very comfortable place to spend time.

update here.decided to buy today..its an 03 avantgarde..its a great car very clean for the year and the power and comfort is a new world from me coming from a 1.4 octavia..just out of curiosity i burnt 20 euro of petrol today alone (nothing illegal just did a fair bit of driving and checking the superchargers output)..can these cars be in anyway economical??...ie manually shifting the tiptronic as opposed to auto.not that im bothered really
