I have just been contacted by the icbf looking to buy up to 7 of my incalf heifers, due this coming spring. they are offering 1100 apiece subject to scanning in calf and passing a blood test for ibr bvd johnes etc all which they will pay for.. just wondering has anyone else come across this or what do ye think?

What sort of in calf heifers are they?

€1100 doesn't sount right to me. Sure a good weinling heifer is worth €1100.
Did they say what they want them for?

I presume it is for monitoring, similar to bulls in Tully.

They are dairy replacements. a British freisian/ holstein cross. and they have the 7 numbers of the ones their interested in picked out.. it's for an elite cow breeding program i think was the name he put on it... i'd be thinking the same cos our stock tends to be well forward of any targets and these are currently around the 500 kg mark

got contacted bout 3weeks ago- they wanted all heifers between 90-120 ebi
only offering 1100- way short of the 2k average we get after they calf

they are running a lower ebi herd under same conditions as the elite herd

hardly think so- they are only buying from herds with good health status- so path yourself on the back

tell them to go have a jump for themselves.you would be raffling your heifers to them at 1100 each

2k average, where do you sell to get these prices?

in fairness stan your adverage heifer prices are well above the norm compared with non-pedigree stock.

in saying that I think 1100 is still well off the mark

Old thread I know, but just got a call from ICBF looking to buy 6 weanling heifers from us, 6 in total, offering 2.50 a kg, 2 are out of maternal stock bull, 2 from terminal bull, 2 from AI. All nice stock.Lims out of Sims.
Why do they want these calves and what you reckon on price?

Let's say you do sell them, how do icbf propose you replace 4 maternal heifers for €750?
They are probably trying to validate the accuracy of the genomics scheme.
