Hi all. Unearthed this old 1Gb MP3 player a few days back. I think it's 2005 or so vintage. Seems to work fine except it has a weird USB socket and I've no idea where the cable is now.
Anyone ever seen a socket like this before and know if it has a name?
    Thanks!

(sorry it's a bit bright, but that's phone cameras for you and I think you can make out the shape of it well enough)

    It looks propriatory, non-standard.

Wiki Page on USB Connectors (diagrams near end)

I think Tevion were/are also Medion, if you want to search their sites for usb cable accessories. Doubt it's worth throwing money after though.

Apologies, I should have said I've been down the Google and Ebay route quite a bit already on this. I bet the cable will turn up the day after I chuck this in the bin!

It would help if you posted up the exact model number.

But your best bet is really e-mailing Tevion and asking if they have spares or could give you a part number for the usb cable that you might search the net for.

I'm surprised the battery life isn't dire being that old.

This is non standard, its like there used to be ten different

connectors , for mobile phones till the regulator told em to switch to usb port for charging.
Companys were so stupid they each made there own
different chargers non compatible with different size connectors.
now all mp3 players use usb or apple connectors.

    @creepingdeath
I Googled the model number. Nowhere to be found on the internet. Not even an image to match it.
It takes an AAA battery so no problems with that.
I sent away for one of those €10 MP3 players from China, but I might drop Tevion an e-mail... I just hate throwing stuff out!

Care posting a proper photo of the player?

They're usually rebranded Players from China or Korea.

No problem. Here's the front of it turned on and inside the battery area showing the serial.

Would you not just go buy a Sansa Clip which has decent SQ instead of torturing your ears with that thing.

Um, I've already said I've bought a new MP3 player, and TBH my phone works just fine as one anyway. Why do you think the sound from this Tevion is any different from your Sansa? Probably the same parts chucked together in the same Chinese megafactory!

The excellent SQ of the Clip/Zip is common knowledge.

It also gives you a radio, usb charging, a Micro SD slot, half decent ear buds, half decent screen, (and a clip).

Its better value than these cheap players. 4GB one is €40.
