The magic genie bottle (oil light) just came on?

This has never happened me before in any other car so only when it popped on I realise i have not got a bulls testicle of a notion what to buy?

Can someone help? looking for best as possible no expense spared!

    Thanks

:pac: Pacman knows more about oil than me

I would stop driving that car immediately, you could cause irreversible damage otherwise. If it's not too low then a 1l top up will be enough. Any motor factors will have the oil needed (5w/40). Be careful not to overfill it's just as bad as having no oil. Use the dip stick the check the level. Check this if still unsure how to check oil: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-check-your-cars-oil-level

What colour is the light? Yellow or red?

Yellow means you're running low on oil and needs to be topped up.

As already mentioned, overfilling is just as bad if not worse than not having enough oil in the engine, so be careful when filling it up if that's the actual problem!

If it's the red light, do not under any circumstances drive the car until it's been inspected. Sometimes with Volkswagens/Audis etc the red oil light comes on even though there is nothing actually wrong at all with the engine, only a faulty sensor, but I'd rather not take that chance - if the oil light is on because there is actually not enough oil pressure then you'll be saying bye bye engine!

remember to let the engine cool before you check the level of the oil!

Well you don't necessarily have to pour it all in at once. Check the oil level with the dipstick as you go. It should be between the min and max marker.

Right lads I topped it up yesterday evening and all seems ok at the minute and I have some now on standby etc etc

My car got serviced a month ago and passed the NCT like 3 weeks ago,

How would it go through a full yoke of oil in a month?

I checked the ground after I moved the car this morning and theres like no leaks or spillages on it?
