Alloy levers and chainset? Hopefully there is a carbon option, will buy anyway.

EDIT: Oh noes, they are using PT for the chainset! Argh!

Very nice, I had the Mavic Zap system back in 92-93 and it was a great system but needed a sturdier derailleur..

Ribble seem to have a list price for the Athena EPS rear derailleur: £370

    Super Record: £600
    Record: £485

If that's the case, and if the groupset prices (shinybikes.co.uk for Record (£2900) and Super Record (£3500) are roughly in line with the component prices from a different retailer (!)...bit of a stretch I know, but that would mean a launch price in the region of £2200, well above the price that a now established and discounted Ultegra Di2 is being offered at (£1500 RRP).

Hopefully they launch it at a competitive price and the Ribble component price is either an estimate or just plain wrong. I'd go for mechanical record over electronic athena otherwise.

Presumably you could use a chorus or other ultra torque chainset. I assume the shifters and derailleurs are the only EPS specific bits?
I have to say I don't like the black alloy, I'd prefer silver alloy or carbon. I don't see the point of electronic group sets at all though.

Yeah you can use whatever chainset you like. I would very much select mechanical SR over EPS Athena. The beauty and the functionality is already there, also the weight is much less. If is lunched at 2500€, then it's just too much for Athena.

Am I right in thinking that Campag have skipped Chorus and gone to Athena for EPS? Seems a bit strange?

There is already Record EPS and Super Record EPS. I guess they haven't found enough grades of plastic for a fourth version.

Personally I'd go for mechanical 11 speed Record or Dura Ace before buying electronic Athena or Ultegra .... and I sure as hell can't afford EPS Record or Dura Ace DI!

There was some talk that eventually the top end would go all electronic and Chorus would be the top mechanical group.

Campagnolo, like nearly all groupset manufacturers have too many models in their line-up. Three is all you need really.

Isn't that a bit like saying that three bikes is all you need? Bordering on heresy, that is.
