Peugeot 307 dpf

    Right guys long time reader first time poster wishing to pick ye're brains..

    Basically got told today by my mechanic that the dpf in my car is on its last legs, i was told i can either go to a main dealer and replace or get the ecu chipped

    so my question is what are the pros and cons of each option and if theres is anymore and also what the damage to my back pocket will be roughly?

    Car is a 02 hdi 2.0 110bhp

    Far as I know they just drill a hole through the dpf, and make the ECU not recognise the fault. I'd do that over getting another DPF.

    There are companies out there that will remove the DPF and do a DPF delete from the ECU. I think they charge around €300-€400.

    Currently the NCT don't take DPFs into account when measuring emmissions, however this could change over the next few years.

    Surely this would go on the year though. Most cars from 03 don't have a filter.

    It could depend on the car too, if it was fitted with an original DPF from the factory then they may test it. Hard to tell at this stage what they would do.

    There are a few different dpf's on the 2.0 hdi's...here is just one..

    As bazz26 said the nct centres are not checking soot levels yet but if they do in the future there could be alot of failures...:eek:

    If you post/pm me the vin/chassis number i'll post up a diagram of the correct part/part number..:)

    Also if dpf's are cleaned correctly then there good for another 100k+ mls.
    Thats what peugeot fit when get your dpf replaced...:)

    What exactly were the faults logged in the ecu of your car. The actual particle filter itself gives no trouble, its usually something else that causes problems.

    Like I think Demmo is saying, DPFs are pretty tough and the fault is usually something else. In Peugeot's case it could be lack of that special fluid (can't think of the name) or even just a sensor! It could be possible to force the DPF to regenerate (purge itself) either by giving it a good drive or using dealer software. Finally, they can be cleaned, I've heard of them just being hosed out but there are specialists who use a more technical approach. Destroying the DPF and then fooling the ECU seems a bit unnecessary and could cost more if the DPF has to be replaced for a future NCT.

    The DPF additive is called Eolys.

    The warning came on my 2004 407 saying that the additive is low. How low is low and can my mechanic top it up or is it a main dealer job? Thanks

    Low means low, ie it needs to be refilled. Most garages can do this provoided they have the diagnostics kit to reset the ecu ( tell the ecu it has been refilled)

    If its only come on recently you"ll be fine, just dont leave it too long
