Pay Rate for Dog Sitter?

Just wondering what the "going rate" for a dog sitter is?

We've just hired a local person to come out on the very occasional day/night to watch our 3 big dogs but we have absolutely no idea what to pay him. He came out today & will be brilliant with the pups. It's clear that he'll get so much enjoyment from the opportunity (his words) that we weren't surprised when he basically refused to talk about payment.

But we don't want to take advantage of him, so what would you generally recommend? He'd really only be letting them out, feeding if necessary, walking if he wants (we're only planning short local day trips so it's not like we couldn't walk the dogs before we left). Then for the (very rare) overnights he's taking the younger pups to his house where they'll be in the enclosed garden until they go inside his house to sleep.

Any suggestions? We were thinking if he wouldn't accept money then we could get him vouchers, but your thoughts?....
