Getting Hotbird Channels in Galway

    I'm a newbie to this.
I have a 60cm Sky Mesh Dish. I have plenty of channels but want to pick up these channels:
    Satellite - Hot Bird:
    Frequency - 10.719 V, SR 27500, FEC 3/4 DVB-S
    Frequency - 10.892 H, SR 27500, FEC 3/4 DVB-S

    HD channels:
    Frequency - 11.278 V, SR 27500, FEC 2/3 DVB-S2
    Frequency - 11.411 H, SR 27500, FEC 5/6 DVB-S2

When I scan Hotbird I can pick up 323 TV channels but not the ones listed above. When the box was scanning I could see it failed on the range above. The first is 11219/H/27500 and the last is 12673/V/27500.

Would a bigger dish resolve the issue?

80cm dish is usually recommended for Hotbird. Can't answer your question any better I'm afraid, I'm sure someone who has more experience with those particular frequencies can help you out better.

(If nobody gets back to you send me a PM and I'll try setting up my 80cm dish to pick up those frequencies. I'm in Mayo, so not that far away geographically - similar reception range I'd say)

Ha - just spotted your location, and there was me trying to help out :P

Fixed your comment and updated my location :-)
    Thanks for your help.

Ha, it'd didn't look like we were too far ahead with the way we played on Sunday!

I'll run a lead up to the dish later in the week (it's about time I set up the dish again anyways) and I'll post back whether or not I can pick up those channels. :)

    What receiver are you using?

I am using a Ariva 200 Combo. Very happy with it so far.

Hmm, well afaik the 8PSK HD channels need a higher quality signal than QPSK modulation requires. Also, one of the SD tps is actually 5/6 FEC, so that would be less robust than 3/4.

Can't be any more help atm, haven't looked at Hotbird in a while.

I am in east Galway picking up these channels loud and clear on 80cm dish. Also have them offset on a 110cm triax. I find the best way to tune them in on Vu Duo is single transponder scan. On the ferguson ariva 120 or 220 the scan in fine using blind scan.

If you go to Kingofsat click - hotbird - (all frequencies) then go to frequency you want and click the satellite link on the bar where the frequency is - eg HB9 etc.

You will get a map with reception reports and dish size. Its not an exact science but will give some idea - having said that I think you will need a larger dish than 60cm.

    Cheers.

Blind search is best. You should be scanning in lots more channels than that on hotbird. A 60cm is ample, but I always recommend an 80cm here. I've found some of the polish he channels are weaker than most on 13east. A solid 80cm does the job perfectly

Just to add my two pence worth, I'm just outside Glasgow and I used a Zone 2 $ky dish for over a year for Hotbird for JSC sports etc, what I found was the $ky LNB is p*sh because its pre-skewed in its casing let alone most of their single cant be skewed any other way because of daft moulded click points. I had the same issues in that I couldnt get some of the Cyfra+ HD channels etc, I modded a MTI quad holder and used a £3 pound Lidl bought 0.3dB LNB correctly skewed, job done!

I posted a similar problem I was having when installing a zone 2 mesh dish for a polish family. It had a single Thompson lnb on it. For some strange reason that lnb would only pick up half the channels. I swapped the lnb and had no problems.
