    Hello,

I installed Kubuntu today 12.04, but there is no border around the windows. Which means I cannot move the windows, minimize them or maximize them. I can't do much to be honest. I looked online but no help, it is a bug. But hasn't been fixed. I've looked in all the settings I can find, but to no avail. It seems to be a bug.

Could anyone help with a work around? I really need to get on with some work. I'm using this slow Cent OS 6 live dvd at the moment.

    thanks.

odd, i have 12.04 kde on a box, no such problem, but maybe i have a workaround, if you install compiz-settings manager kde version, there is an option to toggle on/off window borders, this might re-set it for you, then you could uninstall, hopefully the fix will stick, if it works

I don't use Kubuntu ... but this might help ...

Launch a KDE window -- say KDE System Settings

    The the key combo

    Alt+F3

to give access to the Advanced menu .... is the "No Border" option ticked? ..... untick it.

I had a similar problem with XFCE before. It was caused because the underlying window manager wasn't started. So maybe check is your WM running.

Yeah, this is most likely the window manager.

Check /var/log/Xorg.0.log for details on what is happening when it is trying to start the Window Manager

    Reset KDE completely by issuing:
    rm -rv ~/.kde4

Needless to say, you will lose all your KDE customisation.
