Thinking of changing my car...

Yes, another one of these threads!

Working out at the moment if it would be worth my while upgrading a few years or drive the car I currently have until it gives up.

What's the rough mark up between what you would get on a trade-in versus what the same car is currently priced for with a dealer?

At the moment, am looking at the possibility of getting a newer car that would be cheaper to run than my current one...and before my current one starts to get problematic.

In that case, you can't make an economic argument for trading up. any arguments you could make are due to your brain wanting a newer car.

Your own car will have depreciated sharply due to the Irish going all gooey over emissions and diesels.

As long as you maintain the car properly you should be grand. spending a good bit on proper maintainance should be a lot cheaper than the cost of trading up.
