Anyone else not hate Nickelback?

You hear people say everywhere "ew Nickelback" and "they're Nirvana for pussies" etc.

Just wondering does anyone around here actually like them, sure they have some stupid singles, but their actual albums are quite good when you listen to them.

They have some great riffs, and its becoming more so with the more recent albums, they release poppy singles to promote the albums, but their album tracks are vastly superior.

Honestly there's so much more to these guys than the few terrible tunes they send out to radio stations.

I can't stand it. It's like a a mix of Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi and Michael Bolton. I know it's the trendy thing to dislike them but I dislike them for genuine reasons. I haven't ventured past their singles because I expect it all to be just as bad if not worse.

Yea i actually like them although the last 2 albums are very similar . Seen them with Bon Jovi few years ago and were pretty good

As said and rehashed countless times, delve deeper and you will be rewarded, the album tracks are vastly superior to the singles.

    :pac:

As much as everyone else hates them, I dislike their music but I wouldn't be bouncing stones off the lead singer's head!

Can you post some of these superior album tracks?

I'm not a fan of Nickelback but I have a mate who does like them quite a lot and he has quite a varied taste in different kinds of metal and rock. I have no problem with them, even just knowing their singles I think they have some nice catchy songs.

I think most people's problem with them is how successful they became considering how simplistic their style is, but the way I look at it, they're the ones who actually put the time in and worked themselves to become a success. Haters gonna hate, as they say.

Or people simply don't like the music, it's not that far-fetched of an idea.

Really like some of these tunes, sure Nickelback may not be to everyone's taste thats just a matter of subjectivity.

    But what I would recommend for people who want to look more at Nickelback for their musical talent rather than a selective part of their discography;

I had the Silver Side Up CD when I was 14 :o

The good thing though was that I've actually had the pleasure of binning a Nickelback album when I binned it couple of years later :p

To claim to like nickelback would tarnish my image.

.. I don't mind the wrestling theme but it is WWE!

Never heard much of them they dont bother me one way or the other..

I wouldn't throw rocks at em anyhow. You could argue the stage, badly needed some rock but that was just bad form

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭viadah

If 'Just to Get High' is indicative of 'superior' tracks I'll stick to hating them. If I'm missing out, **** it, I'll live.

Have all there albums. I like them.

I like 'em, they're not bad. Dont know what all the anti-nicelback memes on the web are about, guess it was an in-joke that went viral.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭Riddle101

I used to be a fan of them, but I've since been turned off them. I think they have some good songs, just like any band has some songs that standout for them, but overall I haven't been interested in them for years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭mags1962

Like a lot and have their albums, seen them live twice and both times they did very good shows. I think hard rockers shun them because they are not heavy enough but give them their due they have been very commercially succesful and that in itself puts a lot of people off.

That has nothing to do with it. I hate Nickelback yet love Roxette and Fit for an Autopsy. It's not about 'heaviness' or commerciality. Stop trying to make it a reason, giving it an explanation. It's simple. Some people just flat out don't like them.

I wouldn't say I hate them in the same way that I hate Jedward or Westlife or stuff like that. More that I just don't like them. Partly it's because of that song "How You Remind Me" which was utterly played to death for what seemed like an age. I realise that's not the band's fault, they're just guilty by association. The other major reason why I don't like them is that song "Rock Star". A millionaire rockstar writing a satirical song about how he'd like to be a millionaire rock star (or more specifically, just one of those rich arseholes that don't like to wait in line with the plebs)? What a great idea! Not patronising at all.
For the benefit of American readers those last two lines were sarcasm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭viadah

Yeah, that 'Rock Star' song is ****ing awful. I don't like Nickelback, but worse than that, I felt embarrassed for them when I heard that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Cill94

With a passion. The corny lyrics are terrible and all of their songs seem to sound the same. And the lead singer has that annoying whiney voice. I think this video shows pretty clearly how uncreative their songwriting is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

Great video. A clear indication of a thought process that probably went along the lines of "We found a song structure that made us millions so let's copy it and hope no one notices".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,903 ✭✭✭Napper Hawkins

Can't stand them, don't really care if they're on in the background though, they're cheesy, soft rock with a certain audience in mind so it doesn't bother me. I'm a metalhead so I generally don't notice that type of music.

This whole "**** Nickelback" **** is poor form I reckon, I just ignore what I don't like and that's the end of it. It's the same with all that Justin Bieber rubbish that's all over Youtube. As a musician I think it's poor form to be forever having a go at someone elses art, however commercialised or fake you may perceive it to be. Don't like Nickelback? Off ye go and start your own band and create something better.

Bands like Nickelback do well because most people don't really give a toss about what music is handed to them, so it ends up as bland and uninspired ****e and it's everywhere because it's easy peasy.

But whinging about and attacking one particularly transparent band, when there is so much other ****e out there that deserves your bile, just seems like such a waste of energy.

Haven't heard enough of them to hate them. It takes more than a few duff songs to generate negativity from me. I'm just not in their target audience.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Don't hate them just not a fan, really loved this track though possibly their best??!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭viadah

So this is what their non-single tracks sound like? Wow, that was a hell of a lot more arty than I expected from them, I'm gonna go check out their back catalogue now.

It's the losers passing judgement that create this crap. Don't like 'em, ignore them like its supposed to be done. This new age of beng punk ass losers is where the beatings should be happening.

I'm with you OP, they have a fair few great tunes and Chad's voice is excellent. I remember their show in the RDS a few years ago as being one of the best I've seen - in my opinion they get far too much stick from the rock community. That said though I find their ballads pretty insufferable.

Nickelback, on their emergence, were the new Puddle of Mudd. Need I say more?

I think the singer's cute. She could do with a shave but.

Wouldn't be into them at all, I really cant stand his voice and just the way he sings in general. I kind of see Nickelback as the Nicolas Cage of rock, they both make me feel bad on the inside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Meh, typical Canadian mainstream muzak rock. Something to nod along to on the radio but I wouldn't buy an album.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 459 ✭✭PattheMetaller

Can't say they've ever done anything to annoy me, not a big fan, but would listen to them. Formulaic Heavy Rock a la Bon Jovi etc.

And I'm sure the band don't lose any sleep over any "hate" out there...\m/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭Hide the Rum

Heard the one Dimebag played the solo on, Side of a Bullet I believe it's called, I liked it.

Don't have a problem with them being around, don't get why people do.

I'll have a hellfire of cheesy, Chad Kroeger induced Nickelback fury over Rebecca Black any day.

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 536 ✭✭✭lisatiffany

Nah there are no bands out there that I'd say I hate even Nickelback have some good tunes. Though they are not my usual cup of tea. I'm like that with most music, I love Metal but I have a lot of time for other genres, I never understood how you could pass judgement on someone for either liking or not liking a bunch of sound coming through their ears. :)

Exactly! This is the perfect definition of Nickelback! Can't stand this band. They are so cheesy.

I think Nickelback are pretty good. And Chad Kroeger has a great voice in my opinion, dunno why he was voted "most annoying voice in music" a few years ago. All in all, they're a swell band. Burn It To The Ground is a cool, heavy-ish song.

Sometimes I like them, but sometimes I also like James Blunt.

A man had to be rescued by fire fighters after he fell down a 40-foot gorge while trying to sneak into a Nickelback gig in New York.

According to Gawker, 22-year-old Kevin Beaudette was taken to the Albany Medical Centre to be treated for injuries after his nasty spill, which he sustained after he lost his footing and slipped into the Geyser Brook George. He had been trying to find his way into the much-maligned Canadian band's gig at the Performing Arts Centre in Saratoga Springs.

Beaudette is said to have been drunk at the time of his unfortunate accident and, after medical crews were unable to help him escape from the hole, was eventually rescued by the local fire service – who had to use a basket to transport him out. After being treated for cuts and bruises, he was released from hospital and will not face criminal charges.

The Centre's president, Marcia White, said of the incident: "Last evening an individual who appeared to be intoxicated, and who was outside the venue, apparently lost his footing and slipped down the embankment that runs along SPAC's Route 50 parking lot."
