Sure every pertol station will be dropping their prices by around 10 cents a litre in the next few weeks.

A barrell of Oil had dropped down alot,so all Tesco are doing here is getting in there 1st,and using a clever marketing ploy and getting people to spend more money with them.

    Clever marketing indeed.

Clever marketing again, then when they drop the prices by 10cents a litre they'll be all like "We've dropped by 10c/litre", when in reality they've only dropped 8

that promised reduction we were due to get looks like it's not happening now... think it's driven by refinery costs....

    http://www.pumps.ie/viewPost.php?Post_ID=826

so looks like the tesco offer will be the cheapest way to get fuel.... the DCI card price went up before it did at the pumps, so it's not the cheapest way to buy my fuel an ymore so won't be used!

The price of a barrel of oil dropped but the Euro dropped nearly as badly, don't be expecting anywhere near 10c off.

Ya, I sent a stern email to DCI in reply to their price update email last week .They came back to say that the wholesale price had gone up by 4c:eek:. And would be going up again on last Friday. I won't be using the card as I can get diesel for 145.9 locally :)

€50.00 spend gets you 5c off per litre

€100.00 spend gets you 10c off per litre

    Meh

    Meh

What you'd save by spending €100 in groceries in Lidl or Aldi would be far more than the "saving" you'd make in Tesco. Okay if you landed in with say a 400 gallon tank for your V8 outboard for the boat or something. Otherwise it is clever marketing to fool people into buying overpriced groceries by giving them a few cents of petrol.

Exactly Stinicker, Tesco will make their money back off you one way or another.

Tried this scam yesterday having spent 80 euro in Tesco's, I was curious as I never tried it before. Filled up the tank, spent 49 euro and hey presto got a pawltry 1.54 discount. Basically it works out at 5 cent off per litre if you spend less than 100 but more than 50 euro and 10cent off if you spend 100 at tesco. Ok, its nice to get 1.54 back but given tesco's in Tullamore is riding us like most of the other garages and petrol was still 1.63 up to two weeks ago, only coming down in the past week to 1.58, there is little saving here.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Barrell of oil is way back and above what it was 3 weeks ago - currently $104

It dropped to $90 for a few hours and the media went wild - problem is they never reported that within 2 days it was back at $97 and is now at $104 and on top of that the euro dollar rate has dropped to $1.22 whereas it was $1.26 (it was 1.34 when oil was at a high of $122)- so in Euro terms its not too far off the average weekly high of $122 a couple fo months back, hence watch prices go up by about 4c this week.

The absolute maximum a retailer and distributor has to play with between themselves is about 13c inc vat (about 10.5c before vat.). Selling at the average price, the retailer gets a huge 5c per litre. Then deduct average 0.75% for credit cards, rent, rates, staff etc etc.

If you have money to waste, there are an estimated 200 fuel stations available for sale in Ireland at present, over half of which are shuttered.

Prices at the pumps have increased by about 40c per gallon in the past two or three weeks, around 9c/liter

I think the price at the pump is due to go up again around thurdasy

1.56 up here. Not really worth driving around looking for Tesco petrol if it's 1.60 or over.

I wonder if Lidl or Aldi would ever think of bringing in their own Petrol Stations???

Thing is with Tesco is that they will have upped the prices on some of the basic/general food stuffs and products that people will buy in their shopping.

So you might save 5 cents a litre or 10 cents a litre, but you have allready paid those "savings" back at the cash till allready, even before you have bought your petrol.

Its clever research, marketing and tactics from Tesco,to fool the human mind into thinking thats its a great deal and reason to shop in Tesco.

Oh and Marty Wheelans voice on those Tesco ads does my head in.:(:pac:

The tesco petrol station closest to me is usually a couple of cent cheaper than the other stations around already so with this deal petrol could be actually up to 12 cent per litre cheaper than the alternatives. On a 55 litre tanks thats a saving of 6.60. Not a huge amount granted but still a saving.

I do all my shopping in tesco usually anyway so a good deal for me.

Have you priced up and compared your Tesco shopping on an item by item basis though??;)

You see, there is Tesco doing what they do best, playing with peoples minds.

A litre of fuel comes down, but various instore product prices go up by a few cents each.

Also why do you think that you "must" spend a minimum of 50 euro to get 5 cents off.....

    Tesco are very clever indeed.

Tesco may be more expensive but it more convienent for me.

I couldnt do a full week shop in Aldi. It too much like a a cattle mart and having huge queues with only 3/4 tills open does my head in.

I know about Lidl and Aldi and the long ques, espceially on a Thursday when they have all the diy goodies in stock....

But its the same with me here, with regards Tesco Clarehall,Tesco Artane Castle,Tesco Clearwater or Tesco Omni Park.

Large ques and fcuk all tills open.

And as for customer service desk, well dont get me started on that.

Ive also noticed quite a few price jumps in all of those Tesco stores in the last 2 weeks.

    Now I wonder why???;)

I must disagree strongly about "long" queues in ALDI and LIDL.

Sometimes the queues can be long, but they move much much faster than Dunnes/Tesco. Also I rarely have seen that aggravating total halt when the operator has to bung off to check a price or find a supervisor. It's noticeable too (at least at my local ALDI/LIDL) that when the number in the queue gets longer than about 5 customers someone will immediately stop whatever stock placing or cleaning they are doing and open another till.
With the large carparks and surprisingly speedy tills, if I am driving by LIDL here in Carrigaline, which is almost side by side with Dunnes, and I need something like milk, bread or some basics in a hurry - I know it will be faster to go to LIDL.

I can buy 65l if I limp up to the garage on fumes, so my maximum savings is going to be €6.50 if I shell out €100+. We do most of our shopping in Lidl, so I'd only end up buying things for the sake of it to get over the target. I might be able to drum up €50 of purchases with non-perishible stuff like dishwasher tablets, washing gel etc but buying more than that might just be a false economy. As has been stated above, Tesco aren't in the business of giving money away so you'd want to be very judicious about what you spend to get these petrol discounts.
