Vista - wont boot into OS or safe mode

    When I power on my laptop running Windows Vista I get the Windows Error Recovery screen that has four or five options, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking etc but when I select any of them the Microsoft loading bar loads for a few seconds then the laptop reboots back into the same menu.

    I even tried booting from the Vista o/s disc in the dvd drive but when I do this it says 'Windows is loading files' then screen goes blank and nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
