Folks,

A heads up if you are getting a commercial tested and it passes. when you get the pass cert, before you leave the test centre, check the number in the top right hand corner, it should be something like L2 02001122. Make sure that the number including the L2 is 10 characters long, if it is NOT, get the centre to contact their issuing centre, as you may have problems with the local tax office when you come to convert it to a certificate of roadworthiness.

Apparently, a batch of valid and correct certificates in all other respects has been incorrectly serial numbered, and as of today, the Local Authority tax offices had not been notified, and their computers will not accept any numbers less than 10 characters long.

The counter staff can't guess at the missing digit, so it gets messy. took me over 2 hours to get it sorted earlier today, Meath are now aware of the problem, but I can't speak for other offices.
