MHL/HDMI Adapter for SGS3

Anyone got a MHL/HDMI adapter yet for their SGS3?

I just ordered a cheap one here but I've seen on American forums that people have only been able to get it working with the more expensive genuine Samsung adapter.

Would be interested to hear if anyone found a cheap adapter that works? I'll let you know when mine arrives.

From what I've seen even the genuine ones for the S2 don't work.

I've a genuine Samsung one from the S2 here, doesn't work with the S3. You need to either by an adaptor to make the old mhl cable work (10$) or else just buy the new cable straight out (around 40-50$) The difference is that the original cable uses 5 pins for the micro usb connection to the phone and the S3 needs 11 pins. They changed the format so the S3 could do usb hosting and mhl at the same time. (And so they could make a few quid by charging the guts of 50 quid for it)

waiting for it to arrive, i'll report back then

I bought one of these a few months back. Was hoping to use it to get sky on a tv but they had it blocked. It does work for netflix however. Dont use it as often as I thought I would though. The important thing to remember is that the phone needs to be plugged into the charger for it to work.

Yes but have you used it with an S3 or are you using it with an S2?

the s2 one does not work with the s3. i have a mate bought the official one for the s3. think he said it was 30 euro (maybe 20 not sure).
will ring him later and repost here tomorrow.

as of the moment the only confirmed working one is the official one afaik. im holding off on a cheaper one for a tenner which should have been released at this stage tbh...
my mate also said something about a power charger also which is annoying, though i think that was for a hub he bought with it too (connecting multiple devices to the mhl at once.

im still confused about the mhl. is it micro usb - hdmi or to usb? or both?

There seems to be a load of adapter sellers on eBay just updating their descriptions/titles to cover the S3... I predict a lot of returns. Mine should be here tomorrow or Monday, but not looking good for it.

Agh, just spotted a new negative feedback on my sellers profile - "didn't work with s3". Others gave positive but didn't say what phone they were using it with.

yup. happening with all cables that arent the official one. considering how long the phone is out i cant understand why its taking this long to bring out a knock off which does the job :S

the question is will that work with a knock-off s2 cable aswell as the official one.
and unless you have the s2 cable (which i dont) then i guess it works out pretty much the same cost to get both

for people who have the s2 cable though its a very viable option

I can't see why it wouldn't. I'd like to get my hands on one to see whats inside that makes it work

Opened a Paypal dispute and got a refund. No mention of returning the adapter, I said in the dispute if they want it returned to include an extra €7.60 in the refund to include shipping costs.

If I hear nothing extra by tomorrow I might get that adapter tip. Anyone else have experience with Paypal/eBay disputes?

I msg'd a couple of other sellers to ask to confirm if it works with the S3 and they looked into it and revised or withdrew their listings.

    Sweet, just got a msg...
    Dear Customer,

We will refund the amount, a return is
not necessary. Please close first the PP
claim! Then we could refund the
    amount. thank you.

    Sincerely yours,

    ...free adapter! :)

Edit: Change of plan - will try sell the S2 adapter and use that and refund to pay for the official s3 one.

My brother might have a use for the S2 one, how much do you want for it?

I'm just after ordering the adapter tip from here for €11 incl postage. Seems the best solution now that I've an old MHL adapter, which didn't sell on adverts for me.

Looks to be a few knock-off adapters coming though now but mostly on pre-order, haven't spotted anything cheap.

id pretty much given up on a cheap alternative coming through until i saw your post there of it for around 5 euro which is exactly what i want :D
i dont care about postage times to be honest, but i want a cable too.
im sure someone could order 10 of them and send them on to the rest of us, if it was working out at 10-15 here. if so add me to the list :D

it has just gotten to the stage where im guessing samsung have copyrighted the pin layout or something and manufacturers cant come up with an alternative.
even a 15 euro alternative is what i want. i dont want to have to pay the full whack of 30 euro for the cable as i already paid for the phone...

My adapter tip arrived a few days ago - it works! :)

Typically though my housemate got a multimedia hard drive since though which is linked up to the TV so don't have much use for it now!

So I have the cable plus adapter for sale now on adverts for €20.

An extra 1 eur would cover packaging and regular post. You can make an asking offer over the adverts page!

my adapter arrived today. so i guess 3 week delivery or so... came from china working flawlessly. heres original link.
    cost of 18.87 euro

    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-MHL-Mirco-USB-HDMI-HDTV-Adapter-Cable-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-SIII-i9300-/160877070580?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item25750548f4

    no issues with it :)
theres 14 dollar ones being linked on xda forums, but first person who bought it is complaining of flickering issues etc... either way this is ~40% off the official one and works grand so no complaints.

had 21 jump street playing on the tv off my phone :)
I also have a usb port on the tv for harddrives etc... plugged the mhl cable into that (it needs to be plugged in) and it plays flawlessly. so there is no need for a power adapter even :D
EDIT; due to lower power input from tv im guessing battery will drain slowly during use ofc.
