Hi guys, I just completed my accountancy degree which gave me my CAP 1 exemptions and I am going back in Sept to undertake a masters. From other peoples experience of doing a masters, how big of a step up in terms of difficulty is the masters compared with the degree? Will I have to know the stuff I have already covered inside out?

I have been unable to find employment for the summer so was thinking of doing some revision. What areas would people recommend I cover in preparation?

It was from an IT, I was awarded a high 2:1.

It isnt that big of a step up I found. I found that hitting the ground running will make the whole year a lot easier. If you have a good solid knowledge coming from your degree and didnt just rote learn it, you will be fine.
Where you doing the masters ?

LYIT. I know it's probably not the best idea to do a masters at an IT with the prestige the Universities have but it will have to do.

I was in a similar situation ,I didn't get any offers in the milk round and with my results and applications the only reason was where I did my Degree(obviously they didn't say that though ). I applied for the Masters and I got offered UCD, DCU and DIT to complete my masters. I picked DIT. I also got offered every company in the milk round. I would STRONGLY ADVISE a college in DUBLIN.

I did Commerce in UCD and got a high first class honours. I did the Masters in Smurfit and I found that it was quite a step up.

Tax stayed similar enough, just more depth in certain areas

Financial Reporting was a step up, some people even failed Financial Reporting 1 twice. FR2 was on group accounts, I found that one quite difficult as it was very different to the way we had done them in final year of the undergrad

There was no change in management accounting at all, could pass it without even opening a new book.

Finance was marked quite hard so while I understood it, I didn't get as high a grade as I would have liked

Personally I found auditing the most difficult as we had a massive volume of work to cover and I'd never done the subject before at all and I hated it.
