Hi guys, i am seeking advice but also thought I'll fill anyone in that may be in the same position as myself.

A little history first. I had to have oral surgery after I came back from a long military deployment back in 2001/2. Basically my lower left tooth hurt (the ones right in front of the wisdom tooth) and developed a swelling. It then turned out this was a serious infection and i needed surgery. They basically removed those tooth and part of my jaw to fix it.

Since then i had no issues with it. Now a tooth right next to that empty space was in need of Root Canal Treatment as I wanted to put a crown on top after it was fixed. Now after a week (since saturday night) a swelling inside the mouth has developed, which i think to be able to locate right underneath that treated tooth. When I push up from the outside it hurts yes and I can feel there is some sort of pocket there (not sure tho).

I will have a visit tomorrow with my endodentist to take a look at this. I guess I am just very worried that I will have to spend another 2 weeks or more in hospital because of this, just like 11 years ago. Any advice would be appreciated.

A tooth that needs a root canal can flare up in this way (cause an apical root swelling that is painful...) The short term treatment is antibiotics/drainage of the infection...
The definitive treatment is extraction or root canal treatment of the offending tooth.
You should not need to spend any time in hospital for either treatment.

Let us know how you get on,
    OS

    Thank you OS.

Thing is tho, I have had 2 Root Canal Treatments already done on this tooth the past 3 weeks. Last time was last week monday. The tooth is not done yet according to my doctor and he wanted to make sure it heals up ok before a crown is put on top. So basically it's just closed up right now. The original revisit before his ok to crown it was supposed to be 9th October 2012

So yeah I will see what this is when I get to him tomorrow. I was just worried I would have to undergo serious surgery again. I will get back with more information tomorrow.

It is possible to have a mid treatment flare up of infection because during the root canal cleaning and shaping process, infected debris can be pushed through the apex of the tooth and an infection can re-establish itself....
It's not a mess up or anything, it happens to good operators aswell... If the root canal treatment is finished, this may be tricky, if the final root filling is not in then this is easier to sort.
Your endodontist is best to tell you...

I went to the dentist again today and there was nothing he could see wrong with the tooth. It wasn't hurting at all and after trying to see if it could take any stress it was not hurting me, meaning this is not localized around that tooth.

He gave me an antibiotic just in case i had a bacterial infection but we will see. He also said if the swelling doesnt get any better I should visit my GP and take it from there. Now I'll take these pills for 5 days and we'll see if it heals or not.
