    TZ have updated their Forum

Seems now you have to have 250 posts to view SC

I have 215 so cant confirm this

Can someone like Bogmanfan or Cyrus have a look and see if SC is up for them

    Cheers

    DT

Grrr.... was going to start a thread about TZ-UK yesterday. I previously joined, only posted a couple of times - They do suggest that your posts are not supposed to be things like "wow that's a really nice watch", and I'm probably not able to answer anyones questions, so I didn't post a lot. Anyways, they obviously deactivated my membership, so I can't login. I registered again a few months ago, but they never activated my account?

And now they're not accepting new members.

It would work much better if they just accepted people on the basis of trusted members references. I do mostly want to look at the sales corner. I don't buy a lot of watches, but hopefully some day I'll have a few quid and I'll see something nice come up. Not bloody likely if they don't allow access.

i'm a member there myself ... and find some of the people there to be a little 'precious' but looking beyond that it is a good site ... think they are still finding their feet a little after the forum upgrade and some areas were not visible to people but think thats been sorted now

The site was down over the weekend for 'upgrades'...not too fond of the upgrades myself (less threads per pages, messaging a bit messed up)but I'm sure there's a good reason for it.

the main thing is that you can search again, the DB had gotten too big for the old software so search was limited to one page of results :o

Tried to register again. To be fair at least I got a response from them this time:
    Dear Zagato,

Unfortunately your registration at TZ-UK Forums did not meet our membership requirements. Therefore your registration was deleted.

    Sorry,

I had the impression that they'll go for either 250 posts or a certain amount of time since registration to allow the access the the SC. I'm a long way to 250 posts, but don't think I'll bother trying to reach that as it seems that if you don't praise the usual: Omega, Rolex, Panerai, the posts/threads don't attract much attention.

It was the first site I registered on but stopped using it when I started using watchuseek. Wouldn't be bothered going back now especially if they want you to jump through hoops.

Can't see how I can contribute to two sites. What's people's preferences for the 2 sites?

I'm registered on both and use WUS for information, there's no better place to find info about watches. Also, the users are much friendlier than on tz (unless you have a post count in thousands and you rage about the approved brands). I would use tz (post and finances permitted) for buying watches as the dreaded duty and import taxes could be avoided.

but, theres a large sales corner on watchuseek? how can taxes be avoided on tz?

    From outside EU = taxes
From within EU = no taxes

Most watch sales on WUS are advertised as CONUS only and not many sellers can be swayed to post them somewhere else due to the "perceived" security of the transit. If the watch is caught by customs, you can pay something like 25% of the value of the watch, which in turn brings it more in line with the prices we're used to pay for watches here in Europe.

On the same note, most watches from tz are located in Europe/EU, and since the VAT/taxes/duty was already paid when the watch was bought as new, so no additional taxes are paid.

    Indeed

However, to post a 3K watch to the UK or Mainland europe by Rial Mail Signed for and insured is £10-20, however to post to ireland is about £80-100

thats why sites like deliverme.ie and the new Parcel Motel are great as you can send to a NI address and get cheap shipping

I agree that the new services of deliverme.ie and parcelmotel.com are a great idea. One very important thing to note is they both have restrictions on what goods they will take..

    deliverme.ie say
    15. Are there any restrictions on what items you will accept?
    There are some restrictions:
We do not accept delivery of tobacco, alcohol or pharmaceutical products.
Other items we cannot ship to you include: Dangerous Goods, Hazardous Goods, Flammable Products, Living Animals, Perishable Food, Cash (including Cheques or any other vouchers with a face value), jewellery, glass, precious metals or antiques, liquids.

    parcelmotel.com say
    14. JEWELLERY gemstones, watches and items of a high value (see limit of liability)

    15. VALUABLES, antiques, heirlooms, items of significant sentimental value or nature
Our Liability howsoever arising and notwithstanding that the cause of any theft, loss or damage be explained or unexplained shall not exceed:

    a) The replacement value of any goods or merchandise stolen, lost or damaged OR

    b) EUR €100 (one hundred euro) whichever shall be the least

Now chances that parcels containing valuable watches would go missing are slim, but I dont know if I'd be comfortable getting my €€€€ watch sent via either service. Maybe ask the seller to hold the watch while you arrange a day that has a cheap flight.
Maybe an alternative would be sending to a post office in NI (Newry for Dublin) and collecting it in person from them, that way the responibility is with the Royal Mail. Can that even be done ??

I'm a member of 4 sites which thinking about it is quite worrying. What sites you prefer would depend on what type of watches you like. Tz uk is good for general watch banter and great secure sales forum (as secure as you can get for a private forum) because of the restrictions.
WUS is great for the micro brands like Mk II in my case and has a very good dive watch forum. The omega forum also has alot of traffic.
Timezone is great for higher end brands and is a good resource for new watch launches etc.
Rolexforums.com is very good for Rolex stuff and gets an awful lot of traffic too

Ok, maybe I'm getting confused over the timezone website. The one I'm referring to is American based. Pretty sure most of the sales on that site were conus sales mainly.

Are we discussing www.timezone.com or tzuk.com?

I'm aware of the difference, but they aren't connected in any way, are they?

And I've never been able to join the UK one.

    Tz-uk is uk based
    Timezone is US based
    WUS is Dutch based

    Why can't u join tz-uk?
