    Afternoon All

I have a 05 1.9 TDI Passat (BKC engine) and I'm a bit concerned about the fuel consumption - I'm currently getting around 13km per litre (combined), which seems very much on the low side to me.

Car is fully serviced, and, indeed had a fuel leak a few weeks back but that was fixed. Any ideas on what might be causing the drop in mileage? I've about 190,000km on the clock.

    Ta

Is it smokey at all. There may be too much fuel been let through believe that can be turned down a bit. out of a full tank whats the range? are you driving it hard ? is there 5 or 6 gears and also are they been used at correct time check manual

No smoke. Haven't given it a full tank in ages, but I used to get about 1,200km out of a fill (65 litres). 5 speed gearbox and I change up at about 3 - 3.5k rpm.

Try changing a bit lower if can obviously not too low but check out recommended gear change may improve slightly. Try fill it and just see what your getting it may be the price of the fuel putting you off and different garage have different fuel which does make a difference

Check air filter and oil breather see if enough air is been let in

Yeah, I am aware of that, didn't think it would be the difference between 18-odd and 13 km per litre, though.

That there is part of your problem if you are constantly changing gears at 3 - 3.5k rpm

The 1.9 TDi has it max torque around 1800 / 1900 rpm

There is really not much point is revving them above 2500 rpm in low gears as your power is dropping off you need to change up :) it should help a good bit.

Took her out at lunch there and paid a bit more attention to where I'm changing up - between 2 & 2.5k rpm.

Thats about 36mpg off the top of my head...

Are you going by actual consumption or the cars computer?

With them having the turbo you don't need to rev high. Let us know how you get on as in if it changes anything for you.

I do understand sometimes to overtake you may need to let up higher on the revs but try and keep up what you have changed

    Actual consumption.

Off on holliers for two weeks in the morning, so won't be driving her for a while. But just to clarify, around 2 - 2.5km RPM is where I've always changed, I just meant I actually checked it when I was out at lunchtime, not that I changed my driving style!

Basically, I've had the car over 3 years, nothing in my driving style has changed so I was just wondering was there something glaring that could account for the drop in fuel economy that I wasn't thinking of (apart from the fact that the car is getting older).
