...it works a bit like this.....:D

Have to say that I enjoyed watching this video, and watching/understanding how all the components combine and work together,to get an 8000bhp machine down the track in just over 3 seconds, and at 315mph.:D:D

I've never experienced anything like the noise of these things in competition.

If you don't cover your ears when they go full throttle, you litterally can't hear anything properly for about 5 mins!!

There's a video that shows the fuel flow into one cylinder, it's like a power shower:

seems like such a wasteful form of motor sport for so little action. 3 odd seconds and there goes 4 gallons of fuel and most of your engine... and all you've done is 1,00ft.

Haven't watched the vid but pretty interesting engines. Running so much pure nitro that are are in the edge of hydro locking, no cooling system and ridiculous specific output.

Cookie I think you are missing the point. 300mph+ over a quarter mile is never going to be endurance race, its a sprint. Horses for courses.

Motorsport is motorsport and comes in many different forms.;)

I cant even imagine what it must be like to go from 0-315mph in a 1/4 mile, and in just over 3 seconds too..:D

    no cooling system

In the video they say that the fuel is the cooling system, the fuelflow is probably greater then most normal water cooling systems anyway ha!

Yeah nitro burns very cold compared to petrol, plus its latent heat of vaporisation is low too. It's not as energy dense as petrol but its combustion ratio with air offsets that energy deficit, by a lot.

dunno if i am so impressed to be honest.

i know they are not going for endurance, but a full rebuild after 1 run?! holy bejaysus...

I know I know, I just think it'd be much better to be able to do "only" 250 say but do it 3 times within 10 mins rather than 40 min gaps ;)
