What can I apply for?

    Hey everyone. :)

Basically, I have to pay for my college education and my accommodation myself. I'm an orphan as of last week so I'm not sure if I am entitled to more financial aids or not now.

I have filled out my grant application form, there were a few issues with the change in circumstances but they said they would get back to me. I got the HEAR scheme and I am delighted with that. I have a form for the student hardship fund, but it says it needs a letter to say that I got into college so I assume I can't fill in this form and send it out until I get my offer right? I've also heard of the Student Assistance Fund that you apply for when you are in college, does anyone know how much you get for that?

I'm sorry for so many questions, but I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any info or if there are any other grants I can apply for.

    Thanks.

First of all sorry for your loss,

You don't state what age you are so cannot help with some of the questions.

As for the student assistant fund, (in UL) the closing date is Dec to apply keep receipts for all your rent, food, travel, books etc that will be required to be submitted with your application. The amount you received is solely dependent on your circumstances, I know people who get €200 and people who get €600 I would imagine that the average is somewhere between the two.

Thank you very much, I just couldn't find approximate figures for the SAF online anywhere. And sorry about that, I am 18.

There are no figures because it as at the discretion of each college to decide how to allocate funds.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
